Can you define ‘woman?’

Jeremy Hanson is charged with threatening to blow up a dictionary’s offices because he didn’t like its inclusive update of the entry. BOSTON (CN) — A California man accused of threatening to blow up the offices of the Merriam-Webster dictionary because he objected to the use of the term “gender identity” in its definition of the word “girl” appeared Friday in federal court via Zoom in Springfield, Massachusetts, where the dictionary is headquartered.  “You evil Marxists should all be killed. It would be poetic justice to have someone storm your offices and shoot up the place, leaving none of you commies alive,” Jeremy David Hanson of Rossmoor, California, allegedly posted on the dictionary’s “Contact Us” page.  U.S. Magistrate Judge Katherine Robertson ordered Hanson, 34, held in home detention at his mother’s house. He is banned from internet access and may be required to submit to a mental health evaluation.   According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Hanson made threats not only to

Is time on your side?

"Thirty days has September April, June and November." Yeah, a lot of us are reciting that poem today.  Sure enough, it's the last day of April, at least for those who live around my time zone.   Where did the time go?   Poets and lovers have been pondering that conundrum since time immemorial. I vividly remember one time, when visiting my aunt in California, she said, “Time goes so fast, doesn’t it?”   I said, “I don't know.  To me, it seems to go really slow.”   I was about 21-22 years old at the time, so there was that.  😉  Now, some 50 years later, I know exactly what she meant.  I've known it for a long time.  Time is a snowball, rolling faster and faster down my hill. So, here’s the question: Does time seem to go faster and faster for you, or does it go just right, or does it seem to proceed at a slow slog?  Life's circumstances seem to play a large role in that calculation.  Wouldn’t you agree? Thanks for posting and favoriting. (by Prima

Each "dot" is an entire galaxy (average galaxy has 100 billion stars)   MMW   •  [S2E3] Has ET visited us? Pretty straight-forward question.  Is there extra-terrestrial life and has it visited us? Give MMW your thoughts on ETs. And thanks for favoriting and supporting the thread! (posted by PrimalSoup)

Want to get rich? Follow the Prosperity Preachers!

Image
Are all prosperity preachers charlatans and/or false teachers? Before we can give serious attention to this question, we must first define the term  prosperity preachers . Different ministries have different approaches to presenting the gospel. For example, relief organizations meet the physical needs of the destitute while giving the credit to Jesus. Some could interpret that approach as preaching prosperity, because many impoverished people equate Christianity with Western prosperity. They may respond to the gospel message while their real motivation is to be prosperous. However, for most relief organizations, meeting physical needs is merely a part of ministering to the whole person. It is a means by which Christians earn the right to speak to the spiritual needs of hurting people. But in prosperity preaching, Jesus is presented as a ticket to perfect heath and financial wealth. The true gospel is stripped of its focus on eternity and reduced to a means by which everyone can exper

Let us sin!

Watching a video of The Richard Dawkins Award, 2019, awarded to Ricky Gervais, A man known to push the boundaries, I was struck by one of the Gervais quotes, which Richard Dawkins delivered: Remember. if you don't sin, Jesús died for nothing. That really hit me in the solar plexus or some other part of the brain (don't bother to correct me) as it is such a simple concept, yet encapsulates the entire reason for the Christian religion. Just think about it; if no one sins, we all live holy lives, then Jesus is out of a job! The corollary is that if we want to keep Jesus in business we should get out there and sin to our heart's content. I'm not advocating crime: rape; theft; diddling little children; or things like cheating on your partner, which causes hurt, but don't get married if you don't want to and indulge in the sin of extra-marital sex. Skip church and get out in the woods on Sunday, maybe add some outdoor sex to double up on the amount of sin. You may thi

Why Was Erotic Art So Popular in Ancient Pompeii?

Why Was Erotic Art So Popular in Ancient Pompeii? A new exhibition spotlights 70 examples of sensual imagery discovered in the Roman city Meilan Solly April 28, 2022 7:30 a.m. In the ancient Roman world, sexual pleasure was a cause for celebration rather than a source of shame. Archaeological Park of Pompeii In the 19th century, the archaeologists tasked with excavating  Pompeii  and Herculaneum ran into a problem: Everywhere they turned, they found  erotic art , from frescoes of copulating couples to sculptures of nude, well-endowed gods. At a time when sex was widely considered shameful or even obscene, officials deemed the images too explicit for the general public. Instead of placing the artifacts on view, staff at the  Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli  stashed them in a  secret room  closed to all but scholars and, according to  Atlas Obscura , male visitors willing to bribe their way in. Between 1849 and 2000, the works remained  largely hidden  from the public. Fresco of L
