StrontiDog asks… [S1E6]

Here's a subject I'd like to see discussed. . . . .

I have often noticed that some really good people can do, say, think, believe some unbelievably awful, nasty things.

My first wife's grandparents were truly amazing, loving and supportive of her and welcomed me to the family with open arms. But they were racist, bigoted and downright scary (think Clan spelled with a K) in other ways.

We all like to say that once someone is [insert label here], it totally defines their entire being.

Does a community leader who has helped, even saved numerous lives through ceaseless effort, perseverance and grit . . . .but who also abuses his/her children. . . .get a nod for the good parts, while they are pilloried for the evil?

NOBODY is just one thing, or another.

Were there good people who were also fervent Nazis?

If you're going through grandpa's trunk in the attic after his funeral and you find he was a serial killer in the 70's. . . .polaroids and all. . . .does that obviate all the help, love and kindness he showed you over the years?

Some people have traits that seem diametrically oppositional, and is that mere human complexity?

Is it compartmentalization?

Demons?

(metaphorical or otherwise)

To summarize:

NOBODY is just one thing, or another.  Some people have traits that seem diametrically oppositional.  Is that mere human complexity?  Compartmentalization?  Demons?  Explain what’s psychologically going on there.

And thanks for recommending and supporting the thread!
