What to Do Now? By Lance
These are certainly troubling days. A black man dies at the hands of police officers. I feel outrage. Streets erupt in violence and stores are looted and burned. I feel outrage. Good police officers are targeted and killed. I feel outrage. So, what can I do.
I must say I am proud of my community.

Our mayor live streamed as he participated. He's in the thick of things as the president of the national al mayors council. I have said it before but it needs repeating. What is the purpose if doesn't bring solutions. This will die down and most will forget about it. Until next time.
Some want to blame, others feel there is justification, and me? I'm disgusted with it all. But what is next? Is there a solution? I dont think it is with politicians. You may be among those who blame Trump. Others will blame Obama. I'll blame apathy.
Im guilty of being a white guy, unaffected by it all. Im guilty of white silence. I defend good policing and condemn wanton violence. Im not a protester, but support those who do so, peacefully and with purpose. But what will result.
I believe the best any of us can do is listen. Which is what can become the solution. Police departments needs to become part of their community, and accountable to their community. It should look like this.

We dont need to defund or disband. We do need to get rid of bad officers. We need accountability. We elect our sheriff. We should also have a community board that the sheriff, and the precinct captains report to. A board that hears citizen complaints and addresses concerns with the department.
This would require leaders from the community. Leaders who will also address their community with the problems officers face in the community. This is a tried and true method in corporate America. It's worth a try.
But first, the hating must stop. What are your positive solutions?
