Nothing Will Change - Again by Lance

As has happened time and time again an opportunity to do something meaningful when needed appears headed to familiar territory.  Lost.

I say time and again because for near two decades compromise loses to political points.  And, this time the blame lies squarely on the Democrat party.  I dont believe it has anything to do with principal.  If you have principal you debate an issue, you dont slam the door on it.

So, Democrat senators dont believe a Republic sponsored bill goes far enough.  I might remind you the House has a Democrat sponsored bill.  One that probably goes too far.  In a sane world, both chambers debate their bills, suggest amendments, and have an up and down vote.  Then a bipartisan conference committee irons out differences and presents a unified solution.

That is if you want a solution.  The Democrat party doesn't want a solution, they want a talking point.  So they refuse to debate and virtually end any progress.  It would have taken just seven Democrats to say let's talk but none had the guts.

I long for the days when our government worked.  When Reagan and O'Neal got things done.  When Clinton and Gingrich got things done.  Even GW was able to get things done early in his presidency.  It just meant talking.

The old guard us too tainted.  We've elected far right and far left legislators who had big goals, and thankfully most got swallowed up in the system.  But the system, as it is, keeps moderates out of the arena.

This is due to voters.  Primary voter turnout is pathetic in this nation.  This enables the extremists and most mobilized to have a larger than warranted say.  They have the power to defeat weak incumbents.  But, they can rarely compete with the money of the truly established politicians. And they are the problem.
