Trying to Understand

I honestly thought asking the question of how much is too much was a rational question that would lead to real debate.  Instead it turned ugly.  One such participant has asked us to show some humanity.  Humility would be good too.

I understand from his post there was loss, for which I am truly sorry for.  I also may have contributed in my manner of calling him and others out improperly for that ugliness.

NPR had an article about why there was so much confusion over the appropriate steps to take.  There are multiple experts making vastly diametric claims.  That in itself is worthy of conversation.

But not mud slinging.  Maybe someday folks will be able to keep their emotions in check.  In the meantime I hope to be able again participate in this forum.  I am responsible for my reaction, regardless of the names and insults being slung about.  Being human I erred.

Philosophical Question #14 – Lifestyle Choices

Here is an interesting question in my list of philosophical questions: 1.) Should governments have penalties for those who live unhealthy lifestyles? A list of unhealthy lifestyles would include things like smoking, drinking, illegal drugs, prostitution, and other “vice” type activities. I guess the “government penalties” would be referring to monetary punishments, withholding medical treatments (insurance companies would love that), possibly imposing/regulating very high (exorbitant) prices on things considered unhealthy in order to cut down on their use, and other possibilities. 2.) Or, would you say that living an unhealthy lifestyle, likely resulting in a LOT of eventual personal pain and suffering, should be punishment enough for unhealthy lifestyles? When people make bad choices in life, often in their youth where ignorance and immediate gratification takes them over,  3.)
