As for the US........

40 States Consider Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) Illegal

0 Federal Laws on Euthanasia and Medical Aid in Dying (MAID)

Of course, this is a hotly debated, and contested subject. Many people are against the idea on moral grounds as well due to other concerns:

Myself personally, I am in full support of MAID. No moralizing or slippery slope arguments will bind me to dying without dignity but dying in pain.

I have one issue with the Canadian version. And that one issue is still being discussed in the halls of Parliament. It's this:

I must be of sound mind at the time I request MAID.

In short, should I suffer dementia or a stroke or otherwise become mentally incapable of making a decision, and afterwards contract a deadly illness, then there is not choice but to die without dignity.

Because you can NOT assign a guardian or family member to make that request for you should you be suffering but are not capable of making the decision for yourself. That to me is half-assed backwards.

I know this is a deeply personal and moral issue for many, but feel free to discuss how you feel about doctored assisted death.
