A tough pill to swallow?

Here’s an interesting question from StrontiDog:

When (assuming it happened) did you figure-out that your parents were just fallible people, much like any other people out there?

I’ll add, did you ever realize that you were smarter* than your parents/caretakers?  If so, what thought processes went through your head at that realization?  Note- Smarter doesn’t necessarily mean "wiser" (that’s a tall order!).
