HEAVY METAL SATURDAY

Was going through my CD collection (yup, I still do CDs). Came across one I made myself of Metallica. Except for a few songs like Nothing Else Matters, found the music almost unlistenable. Am I getting old?Or is heavy metal something for those who love heavy metal not for the rest of us??

Then some guys decided to an acapella version:

AND there is the thing, I have some favorite songs that have been done by Heavy Metal bands, but they are usually ballads, not their usual numbers. Example:

But on the whole I have grown tired of bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slipknot, and the like.

So, question 1 - are you into heavy metal, or not really your cup of tea?

Then there is this little gem I found:

Concerns have been raised that prolonged exposure to heavy metal music with aggressive themes can increase the risk of aggression, anger, antisocial behaviour, substance use, suicidal ideation, anxiety and depression in community and psychiatric populations.
Heavy metal music with aggressive themes has been identified as a potential risk factor for externalising behaviours (characterised by aggression and antisocial behaviour), internalising behaviours (characterised by depression and anxiety), and unhealthy behaviours such as substance use and self-harm.
The potential for heavy metal music to influence mental health and problem-behaviours is taken seriously by policy makers, mental health professionals and researchers (C. Baker & Brown, 2016).

Yeah yeah, the rest of the article is incredibly long, but you get the general theme.

From the same article:

Heavy metal developed as a genre in the late 1960s and 1970s, with bands including Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin fundamental to its emergence (Walser, 2013). Heavy metal music, and later offshoots such as thrash metal, grindcore, and death metal, is often characterised by energetic high intensity sounds, distorted electric guitars and bass, screamed or growled vocals and powerful drums.

So, questions 2 and 3:
Do you believe heavy metal has a triggering effect as suggested in the above article?
AND, would you consider Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin examples of heavy metal?
BECAUSE I don't. They, to me, are classic rock, hard rock maybe, but not heavy metal.

The kind of heavy metal I really would prefer to avoid are ones like this:

Ok, weigh in as you please, or go enjoy your Saturday without the Heavy Metal headache.
