War gaming the upcoming election
How are events going to unfold when one party wins the popular vote while the other wins the electoral vote, and results from a half dozen states are contested over a variety if gross irregularities? Plus which, the count of absentee ballots is obscured because counting was stopped as of some arbitrary witching hour... with bags of uncounted ballots still sitting on the post office floor? Plus, there are class-action suits underway from the League of Women Voters, Common Cause and other voter-advocate organizations against the illegal actions of secretaries of state, boards of elections and the political parties themselves? All of which actions have statutory deadlines looming over their heads, at which time a winner by law must be declared.
During these fateful moments and days a drama will be carried out that has been witnessed at least twice before. Once in 2000 and once back in 1876. And at the time these events occur the principals will only have hours, not weeks, in which to make decisions the nation is going to have to live with. So, toward that end, planners have been conducting war games, to explore how various likely scenarios will unfold.
