Israel bombs Gaza... again
Once again in the news-- although not newsworthy here in the US-- is the latest Israeli bombing of Gaza, which has been going on quietly for the past week.
The justification being given, of course, is Palestinian balloon bombs. Which are bundles of burning stuff being lofted into Israeli territory by balloons or by kites. just about the most ineffectual tool of terror imaginable. No Israelis have been killed or injured.
But the balloons are being used to justify the continuing lockdown, which for the last 13 years has severely restricted the amount of food, electricity and other basic needs allowed to enter Gaza. The entire population continues to be held prisoner. Plus, according to the story, the 'strict regime' has now grown worse. Gaza is being denied all electricity, and now they are to have no protein. Fishing-- their only source of meat-- has been banned.
So for the past 13 years Israel has been in continuous violation of the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit the collective punishment of civilian populations. And the justification? Demonstrators.
Actions that Israel describes as “riots” that are described in Associated Press as “dozens” of Palestinian protesters who have gathered nightly at the border fence with Israel.
Israeli spokespersons will tell you that these balloon bombs are a Hamas tactic designed to spread terror among Israeli civilians. But Hamas once again tells us they have nothing to do with it. It is the work of "independent activist groups in the Strip, which have also been responsible for launching several rockets."
Naturally one has to wonder who exactly these independent activists are. Because the direct result of all their activities only has one result. It causes the Israeli Defense Forces to make things worse for everybody, and results in the deaths of dozens to hundreds of protesters, aid workers and bystanders. It definitely sets back the Palestinian cause, and only makes the endless suffering more intense. One would be hard pressed to imagine any Gazan citizen wanting to do this.
One possibility-- not supported by any evidence but the only plausible theory I can imagine-- is that it is the work of the Musta'ribeen-- Israeli agents disguised as Arabs. These are people we know exist, but without reporters being allowed to witness, it is difficult to track their activities.

I would suggest that if you have not previously heard of this unit, you google them and examine the issue for yourself. Their involvement is the only explanation for the situation in Gaza that makes any sense. Otherwise you have to follow the line that the Gazans are all death-loving fanatics in the grip of a demon religion that causes them to annihilate themselves, their neighbors and their loved ones..
I anticipate there will be heated discussion on both sides of this issue. Most Americans, and in particular most Democrats, implicitly take the side of Israel... and dismiss any suggestion that the Palestinians are not 100% responsible for their plight.
