The candidate is THAT dumb?

The wires are burning up with news of an officially nominated Republican candidate who believes in the imbecility from Q-Anon.  Among her quaint theories: George Soros, a Holocaust survivor who was 13 when the war ended, is a Nazi.  Donald Trump is secretly running an operation to save children from a pederasty conspiracy that involves several Democratic candidates--yeah, the one that operated out of a basement underneath a pizza parlor that, whoops, had no basement.  Etc.  Let's face it, the lady is loopy.  She's not just out to lunch, she's feeding on imbecility.

But is she alone?

I can't help casting my mind back to really stupid comments from candidates and politicians of all sorts over my nearly seven decades.

''The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. I mean in this century's history. But we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century.''

—Dan Quayle

\''My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize.''

—Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.)

''Rarely is the questioned asked: Is our children learning?''

—George W. Bush, Prez

''We had no domestic attacks under Bush; we've had one under Obama.''

—Rudy Giuliani, Mr. 9/11, forgetting 9/11

'A zebra does not change its spots.''

Al Gore

'I would have made a good Pope.''

—President Richard Nixon

Okay, guys, everybody can play!  No phonies--I'll call them out.  And try not to indulge in silly partisan politics.  The point is not whether we agree or disagree with the comment, the point is finding the dumbest ones we can!

Three, two, one aaaaaaannnnddd GO!
