EVs

 Short for Electric Vehicles.

Do YOU drive one, or plan on buying one, or plan on EVER owning one?

Most of us old timers might not be around or still be driving by the time mandates come in.

The Standard requires all new light-duty vehicle sales in Canada to be electric or plug-in hybrid by 2035. There are also interim targets of at least 20 percent of all sales being EVs by 2026 and 60 percent by 2030.

In the U.S. the issue of EVs has become a political football. However the Biden administration is going ahead with mandates and putting a brave face on against the backlash.

Geri and I bought a gas powered SUV last year, and because of where we live, where it is really cold half the year, and because of living in an apartment complex that doesn't have powerful enough plugins for EV charging, we had little choice.

But I know someone bought an EV (Equinox EV) and he is so thrilled with it he has become an advocate for EVs. But he owns a home. He can plug it in overnight and by morning it's fully charged. And his electric bill has gone up only an average of $24 a month. Mind you, the original price was more than a gas powered Equinox would have cost him, but damn, I spend MORE than $24 a week on gas let alone a month.

Here and in the US, the infrastructure has to seriously improve to accommodate the mandates and long road trips will still be an issue unless they have as many charging stations along the way as they have gas stations.

So, in short, what are YOUR attitudes about EVs, and back to the original question, would YOU ever own one?
