Good versus Bad…

We humans are very adept at gauging what we consider “good” (positive) versus “bad” (negative).  The metric is often based on something (some condition) being seen as constructive versus destructive, or pleasurable versus painful, or beneficial versus harmful, etc.  And of course, there are also those “in betweens,” meaning the judgment is in the “eye-of-the-beholder” thing; some would say X is good, and some would say X is bad (euthanasia would be such an example).

But generally speaking, most all humans see the bigger picture the same way, regarding what’s considered good and what’s considered bad.  (Note, I’m using the term “bad” instead of “evil.”  Though they are cousins in some of our eyes, evil implies a morality judgment.  Different subject.)

Anyway, here are some questions:

  • Is good and bad a human construct?  If no, why not?
  • Does nature deal in good(s) versus bad(s)?  Meaning, does nature “care” about outcomes?  If yes, why?
  • If humans (barring aliens of course) didn’t exist, can good and bad exist?  If yes, how so?

Think about the concepts of good and bad.
