NO, don't spoil the fun and run off to your atlases right away!

Came across an interesting article worth reading on it's own merits:


In fact was tempted to let the article itself be the discussion, but then I found one part of the article particularly interesting:

The Democratic Republic of Ruritania is gripped by election fever. One popular candidate has vowed to cut immigration and said at a rally last week: "Immigrants are a threat to the Ruritanian way of life." Her stance on immigration has won a lot of support amongst voters who feel that they are losing out in a changing society.

Now knowing how wise, well-read, and sagacious our regulars on here are, most of you might already KNOW where Ruritania is. If you do I ask you use the spoiler feature to hide your answer to give others a chance to figure it out. Of course if they can't they can always check your spoiler. 

Comment on the article itself if you wish, it is a very thoughtful article and all too apropos to conditions in our world today. OR just have some fun with figuring out where Ruritania is.

Philosophical Question #14 – Lifestyle Choices

Here is an interesting question in my list of philosophical questions: 1.) Should governments have penalties for those who live unhealthy lifestyles? A list of unhealthy lifestyles would include things like smoking, drinking, illegal drugs, prostitution, and other “vice” type activities. I guess the “government penalties” would be referring to monetary punishments, withholding medical treatments (insurance companies would love that), possibly imposing/regulating very high (exorbitant) prices on things considered unhealthy in order to cut down on their use, and other possibilities. 2.) Or, would you say that living an unhealthy lifestyle, likely resulting in a LOT of eventual personal pain and suffering, should be punishment enough for unhealthy lifestyles? When people make bad choices in life, often in their youth where ignorance and immediate gratification takes them over,  3.)
