What the Powers-That-Be Don’t Want People to Know…

Sophia Sadek suggested a discussion on apocryphal literature.

Definition link.

"There are times when literature is hidden to keep it from being confiscated by despotic authorities. The Dead Sea Scrolls were Essene literature discovered below the Qumran monastery. The Essenes were persecuted by Rome because they were blamed for leading the first century revolt. A cache of Gnostic literature was discovered near the Nag Hammadi monastery in Egypt. The Gnostics were persecuted by Christians. There have been other examples of apocryphal literature in Asia. Confucian literature was once cached in a basement to keep it safe from state persecution. Members of the Bon Po religion in Nepal hid their literature from Buddhist persecution. Other texts have been called apocryphal, but they were never actually hidden from persecutors. They were merely considered non-canonical because they were written in an alien language."

Question: Do you have experience reading apocryphal literature that you can share? What do you think of the idea of targeting literature to the extent that it needs to be cached by its owners?
