Some ideas on voting…

Fellow blogger Jennifer A. Nolan writes:

Snowflake just sent me the Web address of whenweallvote.org. I think there should be voter registration and education at high schools, colleges, community centers, welfare offices, food pantries, and wherever else those who are struggling are likely to gather. When We All Vote seems like the group that will do some of this work. Government offices seem to prefer hiding this basic function from the public, and I think we should work to demand an attitude shift.  When We All Vote website link here.

What do you think?

Here are the questions:

-Should voter registration be mandatory?  If yes, who, what, when and where is the best time and place for this to be done?  If no, not mandatory, why not?  Give your reasoning.

-Should educational systems, including those who prefer home schooling, be obligated to require courses in civics, an overview of U.S. governmental systems, citizens’ rights and responsibilities, all with maybe the goal of fomenting a sense of national unity and understanding?  If yes, at what age should that begin?  If no, not obligated, why not?  Give your reasoning.

Those outside of the U.S., please feel free to chime in also regarding your country's system of government.
