As the world teeters on the brink of war in Ukraine, reels as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to disrupt, and continues to suffer from climate change, inflation, and supply chain shortages, the biggest news of the week came down to one thing: Minnie Mouse is changing her look.

Even though Disney has several characters that don’t wear pants, the fact that Minnie Mouse is changing from her traditional red polka dot dress to a Stella McCartney designer pantsuit sparked outrage, amusement, and a windfall of online attention for a cartoon character’s wardrobe choices.

As with almost everything, reactions came down to politics. Conservative Candace Owens was seeing red (or, more accurately, wasn’t seeing red) and claimed a more sinister agenda was at work in the costume change, while the other side of the aisle dismissed the rants as yet another distraction from the real issues.

Philosophical Question #14 – Lifestyle Choices

Here is an interesting question in my list of philosophical questions: 1.) Should governments have penalties for those who live unhealthy lifestyles? A list of unhealthy lifestyles would include things like smoking, drinking, illegal drugs, prostitution, and other “vice” type activities. I guess the “government penalties” would be referring to monetary punishments, withholding medical treatments (insurance companies would love that), possibly imposing/regulating very high (exorbitant) prices on things considered unhealthy in order to cut down on their use, and other possibilities. 2.) Or, would you say that living an unhealthy lifestyle, likely resulting in a LOT of eventual personal pain and suffering, should be punishment enough for unhealthy lifestyles? When people make bad choices in life, often in their youth where ignorance and immediate gratification takes them over,  3.)
