A small toast...
The poem's Scots title may be translated into standard English as "old long since" or, less literally, "long long ago",[5] "days gone by", or "old times". Consequently, "For auld lang syne", as it appears in the first line of the chorus, might be loosely translated as "for the sake of old times".
Been a rough year for a lot of us here. A couple of us have had the heartbreak of losing a spouse or loved one. Most all of us know several people who've contracted COVID. Life as most of us have known it has been less than stellar; multiple shots, masks, sanitizers, avoiding crowds and travel, and a form of “general paranoia” for the conscientious among us.
So this is not so much a toast to those negative things gone
by, but hope for a better year. I expect
COVID to still be with us even into next and a few more years after that. I don’t see that going away in the near future. But we have each other for support here, and
as a sounding board… kinda like virtual group
therapy. We will toast to that!
Best wishes to all my beloved virtual friends. You are important to me. 😊
