Messing up kids…

… and by extension, our future selves.

We all would agree that kids need the basics in life: food, clothing, shelter, health care, education, and feelings of security (mental and physical).  Those things, and the variations on them (types, amounts, etc.) are “givens” if you are to have a chance at raising a well-adjusted child.  Still, there are no guarantees.  Many things can and do “go wrong” to mess up your kids.

Question: So, other than the basics, what do you see as the most important element/factor in producing a well-adjusted child?  What must there also be to achieve that?
