Do you hear what I hear?

Did you ever wonder what a 19th century man might think of today's world?

Would he be agog at the horseless "carriages" we call cars?  Would he find the fashions astonishing (and perhaps a bit bawdy)?  Would he be shocked to see integration?

Nah.

He'd never notice any of that stuff, because he'd be going deaf and freaking out (or perhaps having an apoplectic fit, as they used to say).  He came from a world where the loudest thing around was other people.

Our world is so damn loud, we don't even notice anymore.  We've got leafblowers.

And instead of riding horses, we ride lawnmowers!

Lest we do without music, we drown out the other noises with boom boxes!

And when it gets out of hand, here come the cops, with sirens blaring!

It's enough to drive you into the hospital!

And there you can listen to the nurses chatter all night while you're trying to sleep.

SO!

What noise pollution do you hate most?
