Deepfakes
Last night’s CBS's 60 Minutes episode had a segment on “deepfakes.”
deepfake
/ˈdēpˌfāk/
noun
noun: deepfake; plural noun: deepfakes; noun: deep fake; plural noun: deep fakes
1. a video of a person in which their face or body has been digitally altered so that they appear to be someone else, typically used maliciously or to spread false information.
Here is a short video:
Deepfakes are a form of dark free speech (DFS), where disinformation and misinformation can be used to gain unwitting support for or against the perpetrator’s agenda.
My question: How can we know if something is a deepfake, or if it’s the actual person doing the speaking? Unless someone witnesses something first hand, is it even possible to know for a fact when something is legit versus a deepfake? If so, how?
Thanks for viewing, posting and recommending.
