Deepfakes

Last night’s CBS's 60 Minutes episode had a segment on “deepfakes.”

deepfake

/ˈdēpˌfāk/

noun

noun: deepfake; plural noun: deepfakes; noun: deep fake; plural noun: deep fakes

1.    a video of a person in which their face or body has been digitally altered so that they appear to be someone else, typically used maliciously or to spread false information.

Here is a short video:

Deepfakes are a form of dark free speech (DFS), where disinformation and misinformation can be used to gain unwitting support for or against the perpetrator’s agenda.

My questionHow can we know if something is a deepfake, or if it’s the actual person doing the speaking?  Unless someone witnesses something first hand, is it even possible to know for a fact when something is legit versus a deepfake?  If so, how?

Thanks for viewing, posting and recommending.
