MOVIE SUGGESTION: CAPTAIN FANTASTIC
I want to recommend a movie, one that was released in 2016, and I re-watched it last night and got a real kick out of it.
It is one of those under-the-radar movies that quickly becomes a favorite to those who want to avoid the typical good-guys vs bad-guys movies, but this movie will also offend some.
The general premise is about a father raising his kids in the wild and teaching them survival tactics, and how to fend for themselves, while home-schooling them, but also shunning society, so that when they are forced to enter the real world, they are unable to cope socially.
There are a lot of political statements in the film, and those statements made me chuckle, because this film, in it's own way, had more to say about America today than all the more "political" movies out there.
Example:
When they arrive in the city, the kids are horrified at there being so many Fat people"

IN my favorite scene, today's lack of parenting and lack of knowledge by today's teens is on full display:

Another scene has the family visiting a McDonald's style restaurant and after viewing the menu, the father says they are leaving, and when the kids ask why, he tells them "they don't serve any real food here."
Those, I suspect, who might be most offended, are those who see this movie as a promotion of a hippie-like lifestyle, but the story is more nuanced than that, as the father finally does come to the realization that his kids need to go to a proper school in order to be socialized with other kids.
Without wanting to give the ending away, the ending ends up being a compromise, between the father still holding onto his family while the kids are off for their first excursion to real schools.
With few exceptions this movie has received favorable reviews but those who have watched it, the satirical view of America blends nicely with the pros and cons of raising kids in the wild away from civilization.

IF you are able to download the movie, I suggest you try, because you won't find it on Netflix (at least I couldn't find it on Netflix)
