Why we shouldn’t…

…versus why shouldn’t we?  Cuss, that is.

Around here (on the anonymous blogs), what’s the difference if you cuss for real or cuss in code?  We are all familiar with the "code" cuss words and acronyms:

  • Forker
  • Freakin’
  • WTF
  • Geez
  • Darn
  • LMAO
  • Golly
  • Heck
  • Shoot

As George Carlin so aptly pointed out, “Shoot is really just sh!t with two o’s.”:

So, why shouldn’t we/why we shouldn’t cuss for real?

  1. You might offend someone.
  2. It sets a bad example, especially around children.
  3. It’s a bad habit that’s hard to break.  So don’t even start it!
  4. God doesn’t approve.
  5. It turns off some people.  Thus, you can lose readership.
  6. Fake cuss words are more polite; promotes a higher class of clientele.
  7. Disqus might send us into pending mode.
  8. Fake cuss words hit the ear more gently.
  9. They’re just plain rude and not necessary.
  10. Use is one thing.  Abuse is another.
  11. Mom told me not to.
  12. It’s not lady-like (gentleman-like).
  13. Fake cuss words show more control over emotions.
  14. Acronyms are just as effective, and with no offensive blowback.
  15. Using real cuss words too much lessens their desired punch/impact.
  16. Save cuss words for when you’re really peed off.  That’s when they have more worth.

So, what do you think?  Is anything wrong “forked up” there? 😉 Anything hit home with you?

Q: What is your take on using cuss words (faux or real)?  Are you pro, con, other?
