What Made Your Day?

Image
Definitely not curmudgeon time.  This time asking what small event or incident just brightened your day or took you out of a bad mood. Many years ago, Bunny was in a foul mood.  Was in front of the station, putting a stamp in a letter to post in the box.  Some bent over, little old lady started staring a Bunny.  Was all ready for the “Look, a foreigner” comment.  She smiled and said “Love letter?  He, he, he.” The  went her way. That completely took Bunny out his nasty mood, and felt happy the rest of the day.  Still makes Bunny happy, decades later. Is there anything that still brings a smile to your face? Thinking about religion and Christianity at the year's end

Image
Some weeks back, Susan mentioned this 2 hour video, Zeitgeist . It was mind-blowing. It focuses on the origins of various narratives or stories that various religions adopted over the centuries.  At ~13:25 - 37:00 the video describes ancient precursors of major modern religions, especially Christianity. Recorded history indicates that it started with astronomy and astrology. The Cross of the Zodiac is asserted to be one of the oldest recorded images that humans produced. It depicts the months, seasons and other natural phenomena.  This is an ancient pagan symbol, not originally Christian The video discusses the origin of the ancient Egyptian God Horus. The video points out that the origins mythology of Horus is echoed in the origins of other Gods in other religions.  The origin myths are astrological. The star in the East is Sirius. On Dec. 24, Sirius aligns with the three stars in Orion's belt, which were called the Three Kings in ancient times and still today.  ...
Paging Bunny. I know you are having a hard time figuring out the invite list. You DON'T post the invites into this part of your OP. You create your thread, and don't worry about the invite list, then click on top right "publish". Once you have clicked publish, it will kick you back to the opening Blogger page: Look at the thread you have created in the list that shows like this: https://www.blogger.com/blog/posts/1466504101927225020 You will notice on your thread, a picture of an eye next to your profile picture. If you click on the eye, it will open this page, then you scroll down to the comment section and leave your invite lists as comments. The @won't populate up here, but it will in the comment section. In fact take a look at how I posted in the comment section to get your attention.                17 hours ago George Germaine glenglish Ghost of Ghost Past ✔ GOT II Get-Out-There ☯ ⚔️ 😈 Gus Guzzman Heat Rocc homebuilding homegirl Imper...

Release The ….Curmudgeon!

Image
Bunny is pretty much a career curmudgeon.  Way too many things bother him, but he keeps it under wraps.  One must learn to play nice in public and with co-workers. Bunny keeps it under wraps…most times.  There are times when people deserve an overly loud sigh, a snarl directed at them, the evil eye, or “What the hell are you doing?” In  a loud voice.  Bunny can not stand it when people spend all day at the check out counter, ATM, or post office teller window, oblivious to all that are waiting. Most of us are well behaved in public, but can not be Zen-like at all times.   What is it that brings out your inner curmudgeon? J.P.  Bunny

Does Turkey Make You Sleepy?

Image
Nah, it's everything you eat during Christmas makes you sleepy. It's just THAT time of year.  Isn't it?  🥱 Tryptophan is one of 20 naturally occurring amino acids—the building blocks of proteins. Because the body is unable to manufacture tryptophan on its own, it must be obtained from food protein. Turkey is a great source of this essential acid, but it is not unique: many meats and other protein products pack comparable amounts. Tryptophan is used by the human body to make serotonin, a neurotransmitter. It has a somnolent effect on fruit flies, whose sleep is most likely equivalent to our slow-wave (non-REM) sleep, says neuroscientist Amita Sehgal of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. Other studies show that one function of serotonin is the promotion of slow-wave sleep in nonhuman mammals, she adds, and it may do the same for humans. Thus, it is no wonder that turkey, which provides the raw material for the synthesis of sleep-related ser...

New Year’s, What Are You Going To Do?

Image
Sunday night will be New Year’s Eve, with Monday being New Year’s Day.  In Japan, people spend the time going to temples, watching Beethoven`s 9th end just before 12:00, or watching the first sunrise of the year.  A quiet time with family. For Bunny, business as usual.  Abed before 10:00.  There are end of year parties, but Bunny doesn’t drink and not overly social. What about the others here?  Party?  Drinking.  Seeing in the new year by doing something special?    Don’t care?  Do something special?  Bunny may be a boring lepus, but what about the others?    Posted by J.P. What do you have to do, but don’t want to?

Image
The Xmas holidays are over and New Year’s just around the corner. In Japan, New Year’s is the big holiday.  Everyone wants to head home for the holiday.  In preparation is the お掃除 (big cleaning).  Every damn thing and place in the house needs to be cleaned to greet in the new year.  Bunny hates doing it.  Cleaning when it is needed is fine, but not all at once, because…tradition. Xmas, New Year’s, Thanksgiving, what is it that you are required to do but really don’t want to? First thread posted by J.P. Bunny

A short post-Christmas fireside chat.

Image
Unless you don't have a fireside. We don't. We put on the fireplace channel, with the crackling logs, so while it doesn't give off any heat, we get to enjoy the crackle of logs burning. A lot of thoughts have been rolling around in my head lately. Some have to do with this forum. Trouble is, I have gotten so lazy and comfortable in my old age, I seldom do anything with my thoughts. Tomorrow is another day sort of thing. (BUT I did give this forum a lot of thought over the Holidays and was amazed at how Germaine took over. Thanks to ALL my authors as well) That is part of the trouble I am having. You see, way back, when we started this journey together, it was mostly politics. Now it is a bit of everything. Which pleases me, because politics has gotten old for me. I blame, partially, living in Canada. Removed you would say, from the worse nightmares. Or is it that there is just so much negative press nowadays a person becomes numb? I also noticed, when I go back and revie...

Science: Iceland volcano pulse check; Planetary climate evolution; Etc.

Image
Those darned tectonic plates just keep moving around. ________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________ Insolation = incoming solar energy Some new modeling data indicates that Earth’s life-compatible climate is quite unusual. A more common evolutionary path for planetary climates in life zones around stable stars looks like lifeless Venus or hot variants thereof. Of the 5,566 exoplanets discovered as of Dec. 19, 2023, only Earth has a potential to have liquid oceans.  Astronomy & Astrophysics comments  about planetary climate evolution:  First exploration of the runaway greenhouse transition  with a 3D General Circulation Model Climate modeling is a key step to understanding their characteristics, atmospheric composition, and possible histories [of planetary climates]. If a surface water reservoir is present on such a terrestrial planet, an increase in insolation may lead to a drama...
