It's Halloween!

Image
It's Halloween Ya'll! So Halloween has typically been for kids. Every year I see more and more adults dressing up and having fun. Since I am a Halloween baby, I get to do this for the rest of my life. How about you? Anyone else out there dress up and be silly for a few hours on Halloween? I find stress relief from just plain being silly for a few hours.  Anyone still give out treats to neighborhood kids? Since I live in the country (you can't see the house from the road), I don't get trick or treaters any more.  Let's just be a little silly for one day! CAM

The U.S. issues the first passport with a nonbinary gender 'X' option

Image
The U.S. State Department has issued the first official passport with the gender marker "X," a change the Biden administration promised this year in order to make the documents more inclusive for people who identify as nonbinary, intersex or gender-nonconforming. This year, the department announced it would make the change following a lawsuit by Dana Zzyym, an intersex and nonbinary Colorado resident who argued it was impossible to get a passport with their accurate gender because "female" and "male" were the only options. The change brings the U.S. in line with several other nations that already issue passports with gender markers other than just "F" or "M," including  Canada ,  Australia ,  India ,  Malta ,  Nepal  and  New Zealand . https://www.npr.org/2021/10/27/1049690803/state-department-first-passport-with-nonbinary-gender-x-option Ok, I want my passport marked with S !

An apolitical weekend thread

Image
Well, my significant other, Geri, has left me. Now I am just sitting here staring at four walls, nursing a Vodka (Polar Ice), and feeling sorry for myself. So I thought to myself: Snowy, put up a thread for the weekend and hope that some of your friends will drop by with condolences, music videos, jokes, personal stories, humorous anecdotes, or something otherwise apolitical. So I will be here a bit tonight, will drop by as the mood strikes me over the weekend, to see who has and who hasn't popped on, can't promise I will be perfectly sober, but hey........ Will probably do a joint tomorrow night, but not tonight, I need to be able to wake up tomorrow morning. So, who has anything fun or silly to say, or who has some sagacious advice for me? Make this thread whatever you want to make it, but not politics please, GAWD, so tired of it all, I promise we will be back at it after the weekend. Yup, Canadians really do know how to do it better!

Ghost stories

Image
Published by: e_monster Its the spooky time of year so I thought I'd rehash my favorite ghost story.   Have I ever seen a ghost? No. Have I ever felt a presence? Read on... Back in 1993 e_monster ventured down the Colorado River through Grand Canyon National Park on a commercially guided river raft trip. It was a marvelous adventure: a spectacle of exciting river rapids, natural history, and stunning canyon scenery each day. On end of the fourth day in the canyon our group of rafts pulled off the river to camp on a beach near the confluence of the main Colorado River and the Little Colorado River, an area of tall cliffs and painted bluffs. We enjoyed a barbeque dinner on the beach and watched the stars come out after dark. It was a warm, picturesque, and otherwise peaceful spot to camp. I enjoyed several glasses of wine as the moon rose over the bluffs above us. Eventually it was time for me to sleep. It had been a long day. I unrolled my sleeping bag on a flat spot on the san...

That book is HARD TO HANDLE!

Image
The latest news includes a full-bore Republican attack on a scary book.  A book that is so " disgusting and gross" that it gave a child nightmares and sent him into therapy.  Even now, he remembers it with a shiver. Okay, the "child" was seventeen years old, and the book was a Pulitzer-winning novel by a woman who later won the Nobel Prize for literature. You can't make this stuff up.   So tell us--what books upset YOU in your teens?  What books gave you nightmares?  And were they assigned by a teacher?  Did you find it in your heart to forgive the teacher yet? Okay, I admit it:  I'm trolling for recommendations. AlextheKay

Chicago Blackhawks sexual assault scandal

Image
Question: how are things like this still happening in 2021? Is sports such a heavy drug that teams still ignore sexual assault allegations for the sake of the game? A timeline with everything you need to know Editor’s note: This story contains mentions of sexual assault. Please proceed with caution. Back in May 2021, Brad Aldrich, former video coach of the Chicago Blackhawks during the team’s Stanley Cup run in 2010, was accused of sexual assault by two unnamed players on the team. In the months since the original report, which sparked a major investigation, there have been a lot moving pieces around this story as it continues to unfold. In late October, however, the case got kicked wide open with the release of  a 107-page report  from law firm Jenner & Block after an independent investigation sanctioned by Chicago. There’s a lot of information to sift through, especially in the wake of the recent findings, but here is everything you need to know about the Blackhawk...

Houses of worship see vandalism, violence as hate crimes in U.S.

Image
Houses of worship — across a variety of faiths, including Jewish synagogues to Buddhist temples and Catholic churches — are experiencing high amounts of vandalism, arson and other property damage. The big picture:  2021 is on track to exceed last year's spike in hate crimes in the U.S., many of them linked to religious bigotry. The number of hate crimes reported in FY 2020 was the highest since 2001, when a wave of Islamophobia followed the 9/11 attacks, according to updated  FBI data  released yesterday. Get market news worthy of your time with Axios Markets.  Subscribe for free. By the numbers:  The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said last week that it has now recorded  100 acts of hate  against Catholic sites in the U.S. since May of 2020. Earlier this summer, Canada saw  more than a dozen arson attacks  on churches, following the discovery of mass graves near Catholic-run residential schools that had housed indigenous children...

Police: Burglar gets new keys before she's locked up

Image
Police: Burglar gets new keys before she's locked up CORONADO, Calif. (AP) — A woman pretended she owned a Southern California home so a locksmith would make her new keys.  Officers arrested a 43-year-old woman on suspicion of burglary Thursday night in Coronado, a resort city across the bay from San Diego. The brazen burglary was foiled when the real homeowner called Coronado police and said her neighbor noticed suspicious activity at the home. The homeowner was out of town, yet the neighbor saw the home’s lights being turned on and off.  Officers arrived and the neighbor — a relative of the homeowner’s — gave them a spare key. But it didn’t fit the front door’s lock, and metal shavings and pieces of an old lock were on the ground nearby. As police walked around the home, they saw back doors open and a fireplace turned on as music played inside. After calling for a helicopter and a K-9 unit, officers saw someone moving around on the second floor in what was supposed to be an ...

Scientists Have Found a Connection Between Nose Size and Penis Size

Image
We've all heard the myth that big feet equals a big penis, but new science has emerged which suggests that it's actually the size of your schnozz which indicates the size of your schlong. A survey published in  Basic and Clinical Andrology  measured the stretched penile length (SPL) of 126 adults aged between 30 and 60 alongside a range of other data including nose size, height, and weight, and found a direct correlation between nose size and penis length. (SPL was used as a benchmark because that tends to be a good average indicator of how big a penis will get when it's erect, so this study may not apply to people who are  growers not showers .) In a short new video on his social channels, surgeon and YouTuber  Dr. Anthony Youn  breaks down the findings of the study, with the key takeaway being: "Men with larger noses had an average wiener length of 5.3 inches, whereas men with shorter noses had an average length of 4.1 inches." Youn goes on to joke that...
