Its Memorial Day - by Lance

Today is Memorial Day.  A day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to this great nation.  With the Civid 19 threat looming many of the traditional celebrations will not be taking place.  But there is one tradition of the day we can all participate in.

At 3:00 pm local time a national moment of remembrance can be observed.

Many may not know the history of Decoration Day as it was originally known.  As proclaimed -

The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land.

It later evolved to include those who gave their lives in all of the wars since the Civil War.  Memorial Day was declared a national holiday in 1971.  Maybe we should include those who have made the ultimate sacrifice fighting this pandemic in our thoughts.

So, for today, let us put what divides us aside and remember the true meaning of the day.

Just a reminder that this thread is for showing appreciationot an invitation for the discussion of politics or whether or not one agr
