THE GLASS CEILING
OK - here we go.
In what may be one of the most ironic twists, could it be that the first serious female candidate to become President and break the glass ceiling, may end up being Nikki Haley? A Republican?
Here is why I ask:
There is a lot of moaning and groaning going on right now amongst the Democrats with Kamala Harris dropping out, and Elizabeth Warren dropping in popularity. The likes of Cory Booker are now bemoaning that women and especially women of color are being pushed aside in favor of the "usual", namely white and male.
Then how is it that a black man with an Arab name like Barack Obama could have been voted into office, not once, but twice?
For me, Trump is still an aberration, because running against him was the unpopular Hillary Clinton, and if someone more popular had run against Trump, we might be enjoying a Democratic President right now.
Also, what is this thing that the Democrats have about eating their own? If Joe gets the nod, the progressives will say he is too old, too white, not progressive enough, and hold their noses and allow Trump to walk down the middle.
IF someone on the progressive side wins the nod, the less progressive Democrats and the Independents will likely revolt against that choice.
That aside, back to this issue of the glass ceiling, and the glass ceiling of color. I don't think Kamala Harris lost her bid because she is female and black, no matter how much the likes of Cory Booker spin it, she just ran out of ideas and originality.
I would bet my bottom dollar if Michelle Obama decided to run, she would win hands down, and that would put an end to the argument about the Democrats having it out for women and women of color.
I think in today's America, NOT the Fox News version of America, IF we can successfully elect - twice - a black man to the Presidency, we can elect a woman and/or a woman of color.
So here is my challenge to you all - both from those of you on the left and those on the right - IS THERE a female person that YOU would vote for if she were running?
I will open this up to both sides of the aisle - so please people - be respectful. Would Nikki Haley really have a chance in a party that is viewed as being dominated by white males?
Could the Democrats find a viable female candidate, outside of Warren, that could get the job done for the Democrats? I personally think Amy Klobuchar has it in her to get the job done, so why is she not further ahead in the polls than she is?
Furthermore, is there a female of color you could support? Other than Michelle Obama because that one is a bit obvious, which is a shame she has opted not to run.
GO AHEAD FOLKS, whether on the left or the right, what females would you support if they ran for office? Anyone for Oprah Winfrey?
