Adult sensitive music thread.........
Have you ever heard a song and wondered, WTF? Lyrics that just are so misogynistic, you wonder if they could ever have passed mustard in this century?
I was thinking of that the other day when I was running around the dial and came across a Beatles song and though I adore the band, one has to wonder what they were thinking when they wrote............
Well, I'd rather see you dead, little girl
Than to be with another man
You better keep your head, little girl
Or I won't know where I am
You better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man
That's the end, little girl
What kind of outrage would there be if that song was released now? Oh, but that was back in the day.
Question - really, was a song with those kind of lyrics EVER ok? Make your case, don't take it all so seriously, or yeah, that was pretty awful.
Of course you might expect a bit of misogyny from the Rolling Stones, but ummm...........
Under my thumb The girl who once had me down
Under my thumb The girl who once pushed me around
It's down to me
The difference in the clothes she wears
Down to me, the change has come
She's under my thumb
And ain't it the truth babe?
Under my thumb Is a squirmin' dog who's just had her day 😞
Under my thumb A girl who has just changed her ways
And then there was this one that had people - particularly women - in a bit of tither.....
I'm a blonde bimbo girl in a fantasy world
Dress me up, make it tight, I'm your dolly
You're my doll, rock'n'roll, feel the glamour in pink
Kiss me here, touch me there, hanky panky
Make me walk, make me talk, do whatever you please
I can act like a star, I can beg on my knees
Come jump in, bimbo friend, let us do it again
Hit the town, fool around, let's go party
Ok folks
Your turn.......
Any song lyrics from back in the day that you found offensive? Or you believe would not pass mustard if released nowadays?
