Husband who killed 2 dogs ‘to save his marriage’ is sentenced to prison; wife filed for divorce anyway

(Seriously?)

A 59-year-old man in Virginia will spend more than two years behind bars for killing two dogs, fatally shooting the animals, then calling 911 and claiming they were stolen while he had them out for a walk.

Asked if he killed the dogs because of his wife and the marital problems they had been having, Michel reportedly said he did it for the marriage, not to hurt his wife. He reportedly claimed that as much as he loved Colby and Caleb, they kept him and his wife from doing anything outside the home, particularly because his wife would not leave the dogs home alone.

“I didn’t do it to hurt her,” he said, per the report. “I did it to save my marriage, and that is the God’s honest truth.”

Virginia Circuit Court records show that Michel’s wife filed for divorce in April 2023.

Philosophical Question #14 – Lifestyle Choices

Here is an interesting question in my list of philosophical questions: 1.) Should governments have penalties for those who live unhealthy lifestyles? A list of unhealthy lifestyles would include things like smoking, drinking, illegal drugs, prostitution, and other “vice” type activities. I guess the “government penalties” would be referring to monetary punishments, withholding medical treatments (insurance companies would love that), possibly imposing/regulating very high (exorbitant) prices on things considered unhealthy in order to cut down on their use, and other possibilities. 2.) Or, would you say that living an unhealthy lifestyle, likely resulting in a LOT of eventual personal pain and suffering, should be punishment enough for unhealthy lifestyles? When people make bad choices in life, often in their youth where ignorance and immediate gratification takes them over,  3.)
