Update on Ukraine: Close combat is on tap π΅π«
As we all know, the Carl Gustaf 8.4 cm recoilless rifle is a little stinker for people and stuff it gets shot at. A 8.4 cm diameter shell translates to a ~3.31 inch shell. It's enough to obliterate a tank and the people inside it. The good 'ole Carl G, was originally developed by Sweden in the 1940s. Good 'ole Sweden. It used to be the land of Volvo until the stinking Chinese bought it. But that's another stinking story.
No, the recoil from that cannon blast does not
knock the shooter back over onto his butt and cause him
to black out!
Guess that's why it is called recoilless
So far, about 75,000 Russian troops have been killed or wounded in Putin's bloody attempt to obliterate an innocent Ukraine in his unprovoked, unjustifiable, evil, self-centered war to buttress his evil, rotten place in history. What a heartless, bloody, mass murdering thug.
But, that's just what bloody murdering tyrants do. π
Anyway, Wikipedia says that good 'ole Carl Gustaf effectively unleashes its flying bombs at a range of 1,150 to 1,310 ft against moving vehicles, 1,600 ft against stationary vehicles and about 6,600 ft using rocket-boosted laser guided ammunition. Gotta love that rocket-boosted laser guided ammo. Rounds of ammo cost $500 to $3000 each.
Jeez, it is getting expensive to blow people 'n shit 'n stuff up.
The Ukraine war is going to get bloodier and closer up for the people fighting it. The Wash. Post reports:
The Pentagon is sending new weapons and equipment to Ukraine that will better prepare its military to fight Russian troops at closer ranges, potentially signaling that Kyiv and its backers see an opportunity to retake lost ground after weeks of grinding artillery duels along the front lines. The package also includes 2,000 rounds for Carl Gustaf recoilless rifles. The weapons are carried by infantrymen to fire 84mm rounds [3.307 inches] at vehicles and fighting positions within a few hundred meters.
That's damn close to an opposing modern army.
Meanwhile, Russia is apparently going to go back to coffins made of zinc to deal with the wave of corpses coming in from Ukraine.
Anyway, because we all have inquiring minds, here's some video of the Carl Gustaf rifle in action.
No, the Carl Gustav is not a bazooka --
it is more sophisticated and flexible
in its capacity to blow shit up
Here is a real Carl Gustaf enthusiast enthusing about the CG rifle and all the wonderful stuff it does.
Q: Do Americans have the right under the Second Amendment to own and presumably shoot off Carl Gustaf rifles and rocket-boosted laser guided ammunition?
