I don't know what this means............

 So, my dear friends, I haven't forgotten about you. Lately our town has been invaded by immigrants (legal ones) from India and Pakistan (mostly).

Now they are everywhere. Every fast food take out, every restaurant, every grocery store, most retail outlets, and NOW I see them everywhere as security guards. They have even started up some of their own businesses, like home cleaning, personal care services, landscaping.

I got to wonder where oh where Canadian white people are working. I mean they still run banks, they are still doctors, engineers, and a few still work in construction. But now even our newest dentists have Indian names. 

One answer might be:

Canada does offer wage subsidies to employers who hire individuals from under-represented groups, including newcomers (which would include immigrants from India), through programs like the Student Work Placement program. Additionally, Canada provides settlement services to help immigrants find employment and integrate into Canadian society. 

Which I would have thought would have led to some resentment. 

BUT NO. Almost everyone I talk to in this town is saying the same thing:

They find these Indian and Pakistani workers courteous, hard working, with infectious personalities.

Just this morning, G and I had breakfast out and our waitress was Indian, and she gave us the biggest smile

and the best service we have had in a long time, even from our white Canadian waitresses. 


So, I don't know what that means, but all of this must mean SOMETHING?


(Now, on the other hand, there are all those spam callers, usually with an accent)

Confronting Bluster 😡💢🗯🗯

  So, what is bluster? By definition: - to speak or act in a noisy, angry, or threatening way without saying anything important As good enough an explanation as any I guess, but it really doesn't say it all. Back when I was a kid, there was always that kid on the teams that would lose at whatever game it was and get mad while blaming someone else for the loss, even though they'd been a major part in the loss. So I naively assumed that bluster was only a sore loser thing. As I got older and worked I found out that it was also a tactic to try and scare others from fighting back. So a poker reference here, it's very similar to someone going "all in" right away to discourage anyone from calling the bet. Now, we see it quite often in politics, usually with doubling down if it's confronted.
