Truth...

Let’s examine something akin to proof, the concept of “truth,” with some specific, really difficult philosophical questions:

  1. Define truth in your own words.
  2. What’s the difference between proof and truth?  Explain.
  3. Is truth a variable?  If no, not a variable, why not? If yes, a variable, how so?
  4. Like kinds of proof, are there legitimate kinds of truth (personal, moral, universal, etc.)?  Or is there something, some quality, about truth that overshadows/overarches all other kinds of possible truths?
  5. Is there a threshold limit to truth.  In other words, if something is 50.0001% true, does that make it true, or true enough to pass the truth test?
  6. Should subjective truth ever morally trump objective truth?  Why/why not?
  7. Do you know of anyone who subjectively believes something that is not objectively true?  “God” might be an example?  Give us your analysis of why this is so.
Debate these questions among your fellow posters.
