I have often wondered WHY Americans are SO fascinated with British Royalty.

Have I - MAYBE - found the answer by searching the subject online?

Consider:

Disney may have something to do with it as well, along with the princess culture that many in the U.S. grew up with. “It’s that fairytale fantasy,” says Royally Obsessed podcast co-host Rachel Bowie. “That’s largely where it stems from.”

The royals don’t fail to disappoint in providing a spectacle to match these fantasies. Part of the appeal of the royal family comes from the “scale and scope” of everything royal—from the wealth, to the fashion, to the crowds. “They just want to see the spectacle,” Carr says. “I think it’s because we don’t have that here.”

Because even though we divorced ourselves from the crown nearly 250 years ago, we’ve clung desperately to the mythical idea of royalty — to the legends, the stories, the glamor. From birth we’re raised on heroic kings, beautiful queens, kidnapped princesses and frog princes.

But why do we here in the United States care so much about the British royals? Is it because as kids we were told tales about queens and kings and princes and princesses? Is it the same reason so many kids love the royals at Disneyland? Or maybe because of all the pageantry associated with the monarchy, the grand parade, the lavish weddings, what the media loves to call the pomp and circumstance?

While the messaging about princesses has changed over the years to one that’s more about female empowerment and less about a prince whisking a lady off into the sunset, being royalty is romanticized from an early age in American pop culture.

“I think Walt Disney had a lot to do with that,” All those ideas in films and books, the princess was the ultimate dream.”

So, American fascination with fantasy? Sounds reasonable to me. HOWEVER, does that mean we aren't capable of digging deeper and finding out what really goes on behind closed doors? Would THAT destroy our fantasy dreams?
