flogging a dead horse

Hello there, I hope no one posts a picture of a dead horse, or PETA or some horse lover or animal lover will complain about inappropriate content!

to keep talking about a subject that has already been discussed or decided.
to waste time and effort trying to do something that is impossible.

SNOWFLAKE'S DEFINITION: Ad Nauseam.

On discussion boards and online forums and yup, in real life, there are some people who have to keep arguing a point way past the time it has been flogged.
You made your point, they made theirs. BUT............ they can't leave it alone, they will keep at you till you agree to their point.

What do you do? Tell 'em drop it? Ignore 'em? Tell 'em about the dead horse?

Hillary scandals, Hunter Biden scandals, are they dead horses? Or........still relevant for discussion?

Doesn't have to be political either, some dead horses are over the most mundane things. YES, I have come across people who will argue about a sport, a social issue, oh H E double LL, will even argue about a neighbor or the guy (or gal) down the street, because they have a POINT they want to make.

What is a polite person to do? Tell 'em to get a life? Or hear them out till they run out of gas? It's a dilemma, isn't it?

So, to make a long boring assertation short: How do YOU respond to a flogger of dead horses? What advice would you give on how to deal with a flogger?

AND can you give any examples, maybe from your personal life, or from your journey through online forums, of floggers you have encountered?

Happy Monday BTW.
