THE COVID VACCINE THREAD

 This may seem like an obvious question, but.....

Do you (if you haven't already) plan on taking a Covid 19 vaccine?

As silly as it may sound, there is some hesitation towards the vaccine:

Less than 50 percent of Americans have received or want to receive a Covid-19 vaccine. 

31 percent intend to “wait and see” and  20 percent of Americans do not want to be vaccinated.

Americans' perception that leaders are incompetent, untruthful, and uncaring may be a factor in the hesitation or refusal to be vaccinated.

Leaders who demonstrate competence, character and caring are needed to improve the number of Americans who are willing to be vaccinated.

There is also worry that any vaccine won't be effective against new variants.

Not to mention people who think they are "immune" once vaccinated and act as they can't be spreaders:

And people being people and people tending to be paranoid won't necessarily be reassured by the CDC:

AND it is particularly annoying to me when I have a family member now spouting conspiracy theories about the vaccine, yup, my own brother says he may never take the vaccine because of the "stories" he has heard. I haven't decided how to respond to him yet.


As for me and my lady, we will get the vaccine, but are holding off, for several reasons.

Despite being seniors we are in relatively good health and there are others need the vaccine more, like elderly, care workers, essential workers, the vulnerable. We also don't go anywhere, except to pick up a few groceries, and then we are masked, we sanitize and keep our distance.

But in good time, we WILL be taking the vaccine, especially as I have discussed on previous threads, we are planning to move to Canada.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

Philosophical Question #14 – Lifestyle Choices

Here is an interesting question in my list of philosophical questions: 1.) Should governments have penalties for those who live unhealthy lifestyles? A list of unhealthy lifestyles would include things like smoking, drinking, illegal drugs, prostitution, and other “vice” type activities. I guess the “government penalties” would be referring to monetary punishments, withholding medical treatments (insurance companies would love that), possibly imposing/regulating very high (exorbitant) prices on things considered unhealthy in order to cut down on their use, and other possibilities. 2.) Or, would you say that living an unhealthy lifestyle, likely resulting in a LOT of eventual personal pain and suffering, should be punishment enough for unhealthy lifestyles? When people make bad choices in life, often in their youth where ignorance and immediate gratification takes them over,  3.)
