Kids and money: how did your parents teach you about finance

A public library in central Massachusetts: A light in the darkness.

When I was a kid, I found math hard, and I didn't find money-related subjects all that interesting.  Unfortunately, my elders didn't insist that I learn something about what money was, how I would have to use and care for it as an adult, or why we couldn't have all the toys, gizmos, or treats we wanted, or how to make and handle money of my own so I could bring a few of those things within my reach.  I dare say this was pretty common when later Boomers and Gen-Xers were growing up.  And I don't think the younger people today are all that different.

So, how about you?  Did you have better luck getting the financial education you needed?
