Ho Ho Ho, What is Christmas REALLY about?

A group of ladies I know, very religious, are all excited about the upcoming sermons and events at their local church.

In the past, despite being an atheist, I have been invited to church Christmas celebrations and actually enjoyed them. Not for the sermons, but for the music and atmosphere.

I even have a small collection of religious Christmas songs. Hark The Angel Sings and all stuff like that.

My favorite Christmas band - The Trans-Siberian Orchestra - is largely Christian based.

After all, Christmas is supposed to be ALL ABOUT the birth of the Christ child.


Except, it isn't. Jesus was NOT born on Dec. 25


So, question is, what is Christmas REALLY about? Or another way of putting it, what has Christmas become?

There are far more Santa movies than Christ movies. Ask any kid and they will say Christmas is about Santa. Ask most adults and they will say it is about time off work and family gatherings.

Ask ANY cynic, and they will say it is all about the................ COMMERCIALIZATION.


So, to YOU, what is Christmas really all about? Christ? Santa? Family get togethers? Tradition? OR wake you up when it's all over?


For Geri and myself, it has become a time to be generous - as we donate generously every year to a local food kitchen - as well as a time of year to think about the good things in life, and putting any grievances - and politics - aside. A time to put up some lights, pull out some Christmas tunes, do lots of baking, prepare my once a year Sauerbraten, and be thankful for still being alive.


On THAT note, to my friends here, the few that still honor me by making an appearance, whatever Christmas means or doesn't mean to you...................... OR if you celebrate a different Holiday..................

Confronting Bluster 😡💢🗯🗯

  So, what is bluster? By definition: - to speak or act in a noisy, angry, or threatening way without saying anything important As good enough an explanation as any I guess, but it really doesn't say it all. Back when I was a kid, there was always that kid on the teams that would lose at whatever game it was and get mad while blaming someone else for the loss, even though they'd been a major part in the loss. So I naively assumed that bluster was only a sore loser thing. As I got older and worked I found out that it was also a tactic to try and scare others from fighting back. So a poker reference here, it's very similar to someone going "all in" right away to discourage anyone from calling the bet. Now, we see it quite often in politics, usually with doubling down if it's confronted.
