I have to be honest, I have never had much use for donuts, just a lot of dough with a hole in the middle.
If I am going to have a pastry, make it a pie or cake or pasty bun with some filling in it.
Interestingly enough, people themselves can be donuts:
In informal speech the phrase is used to highlight stupidity.
E.g. You Donut
An individual whom is extremely stupid. Lacks intelligence and common sense.
An idiot. A mild insult often used in the work places of southern England.
Somebody who does something incredibly stupid. An idiot.

I see donuts every day, drivers tailgaiting me, which just causes me to slow down, throwing cigarette butts out their windows, screaming at their kids in a mall, standing in the middle of a grocery aisle while reading labels - well you get the idea.
You just have to watch the impeachment hearings to see what donuts look and sound like. Though the donuts on the Republican side have particularly large holes, just my opinion.
Then there are the donuts you run into on discussion forums, like this one, largely refugees from the old Disqus.
If you post a discussion that is filled with details, graphs, stats, and researched material from respected sources, the donuts come on and argue that the data is faulty, or fake, or slanted, or just not believable. Of course, I would need to ban myself for name-calling for calling any of those arguers donuts, but let's be honest here ……… donuts do as donuts do.
So you can't have a civil discussion about guns, or abortion, or the environment, or crime or anything that sheds a bit of negative light on the great U.S. of A. because - let's face it - in the land where donuts are people's favorite type of pastry, there are a lot of donuts who can't abide ANY negative commentary about their country.
Now of course, you could argue there are plenty of donuts of all stripes, and when I see how the left are attacking Joe Biden, and the middle are mocking AOC, Sanders and Warren, I would say there are plenty of donuts on all sides to go around.
People don't argue the merit of information, the pros or cons of a point of view, debate the ups and downs of a particular argument, they simple attack the other's point of view as stupid, suggesting the other is a donut while behaving like a donut themselves.
So I am sure that how I worded this opinion piece will no doubt have a lot of you thinking that this particular SNOWFLAKE is a donut, ok I accept that:
In the meantime: what are you favorite types of donuts? or do you care for donuts at all? Do you think it is fair to malign the poor lowly donut by calling people donuts, or is the slag an appropriate one?
