Just Make It Stop

Image
Mr. & Mrs. Bunny regularly shop at the local home center.  The background music is always the type of jazz where people are playing what they feel.  Cats walking on the piano keyboard, sax blaring out random notes, drummer in his own world….continuously. The weekly supermarket plays Dixieland, like Disneyland Main Street on speed.  Non stop. Are there places that you frequent that play “music” that makes you want to leave? J. P. Bunny

When retirement becomes boring...........

Image
Yeah, I get bored. Even though I still drag myself out twice a day to cross the little kiddies. Living in an apartment doesn't help, no garden to putter in. No little projects around "the house." I don't do bingo, or pickle-ball, or chair exercise classes. I walk. A lot. Then I spin my wheels. So it has been suggested to me it's time I got more active in the community. Maybe volunteer at a food bank or soup kitchen. So now I am seriously considering it.  Actually, back in my first go-round living in Canada I volunteered at a distress center, did that for 9 years or 11, something like that. Loved it though it was stressful. There is a place in town that has such a service, OR I might volunteer at our local animal shelter, as I love animals. Since moving back here to Canada I have tried to find enough people to form a chess club. They had one back in the day but it was all old-timers and they have either left us or lost interest. Amazing how few people still play c...

As Frank Sinatra sang...............

Image
Regrets I've had a few But then again too few to mention Except it helps to sometimes mention them. I planned each charted course Each careful step along the byway Except no, most of my steps were fortuitous, to be quite honest. And did it my way Well, THAT part is true, for the most part, I did do it my way. So, questions questions questions: 1. Have you regrets? Things you wish you had done differently? Opportunities you passed by? 2. Did you chart each course? Or did it just happen without my planning? 3. Finally, did you do it YOUR WAY? Were you in control of your destiny or did destiny do it for you? Such weighty questions - what on Earth has gotten into Snowy's head?  No, don't answer THAT question, just the other ones.

Fun, Weird, Or Unusual Teachers.

Image
Back to something more cheerful.  Bunny’s 6th grade teacher loved to style himself after Dean Martin.  Clothes, hair, and singing during class.  5th grade teacher of Greek origins would very easily get off track, and spend the day talking about Greek mythology and stories. Any unusual teachers for you? J. P. Bunny

The sad part of being part of this forum.......

Image
Is when people, due to health, move on. You would think that all of us here being anonymous and just here for the fun of it, wouldn't get emotionally attached to other users. A few years back someone I considered a "friend" who more frequently commented on Kat's forum and was good friends with Kat as well - through email as I remember - suddenly went quiet. We knew she was elderly but it was still a blow. Kat tried emailing her with no reply. Even on here I have come to realize a lot of us are getting on in years. Some of us don't want to talk about our health, others are more open. Every so often when I don't see the presence of a regular that has been on here for years, my panic button activates.  I have come to realize our friendships on here are very much transitory. Yet, getting an email this past week from one of our regulars on here did knock me for a loop. I know it is someone I will miss and we will all miss. I have been requested by this gentleman t...

Songs Or Music That Give You Goosebumps.

Image
Doesn’t have to be eerie or scary, but songs or music that give you goosebumps.   If Bunny listening to Tusk while imagining Aztecs dancing to the music, on the steps of a pyramid, lit with flames…. Also, the last bit of Let It Go.  Belting it out in a strong, clear voice… What does it for you? J. P. Bunny

Guys and Gals.

Image
Guys: In order of preference - what do you consider the most attractive qualities of a woman?  Gals: In order of preference - what qualities would you be looking for in a man? https://www.ypareviews.com/blog/2025/6/11/materialists-reflects-a-mirror-on-societal-values Materialists is a brutally honest depiction of expectations, the shallowness of humanity, and our egotistical sense of comfort over what really matters in life. The movie doesn't shy away from revealing the truth about society. Our materialism is what makes us shallow. Everyone Lucy hooks her clients up with are men who must meet certain height, physique, and income requirements. "You're looking for a nursing home partner and grave buddy". Because in the end, we want to stick with the person who will love us unconditionally for who we are, not what we have. Yet the question remains: do we truly adhere to those beliefs? What the above movie doesn't deal with are other factors. Political alignment. ...

Life Lessons You Learned In School

Image
As the title says.  Bunny learned that if you don’t want something important broken, don’t take it out of the house.  Always told to bring something important to Show and Tell.  Important to you, not to the others.  “Wonder if I can break it?”  “Wow.  Can I touch it?  Sorry.  maybe you can get another one.  Co-workers don’t care either. What life lessons did you learn inn school? J. P. Bunny

Fall festivals to come

Image
Veterans (Armistice) Day parade in my local area, 2024 Tomorrow, I will get to visit some neighbors at a "Welcome Fall" party, with simple snacks and a bingo game.  Later, we will celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day (or Columbus Day if you're a stick in the mud).  Sometime soon I would like to ask some nearby church people if they would also host a Halloween party.   Which will be three weeks before the American Thanksgiving, and about two weeks after  the Canadian Thanksgiving, which I think is at a more appropriate date (and, at any rate, the Mashpee Wampanoag observe our "Thanksgiving" as a day of mourning, and who can blame them?)  I don't know how the Christmas shopping season begins anywhere else, but I'm sure every half-smart English-speaker knows about our ugly Black Friday tradition here in America.  Idiots-R-Us!!!

Kids and money: how did your parents teach you about finance

Image
A public library in central Massachusetts: A light in the darkness. When I was a kid, I found math hard, and I didn't find money-related subjects all that interesting.  Unfortunately, my elders didn't insist that I learn something  about what money was, how I would have to use and care for it as an adult, or why we couldn't have all the toys, gizmos, or treats we wanted, or how to make and handle money of my own so I could bring a few of those things within my reach.  I dare say this was pretty common when later Boomers and Gen-Xers were growing up.  And I don't think the younger people today are all that different. So, how about you?  Did you have better luck getting the financial education you needed? Posted by Jennifer A. Nolan

There Oughta Be A Law.

Image
Time to let loose the crankiness or things that really bother you.  Laws you think are needed.  For Bunny, Halloween and Xmas shall not have products on sale, related events, TV programs or such, any more than one month before the actual day.  None of this Halloween goods on the shelves September 1st, along with Mickey inviting us to his Xmas special while the pigeons are exploding from the heat. What laws do think we need? J. P. Bunny

Memory

Image
Memory.  Have you always had a good one?  Cruddy one?  Starting to slip?  Only good with certain things?  Bunny will remember the stupid things, “Just sit right back and you’ll a tale..” but forget what he wanted to do.  Make memos, but sometimes forget about them. How be it with your…um…memory? J.P. Bunny

Time Travel Stories.

Image
The Befuddled Questions post brought up time travel.  Always tons of fun and a source of “what if” topics. Novels, film, short stories, TV programs…What time travel stories do you enjoy? J. P. Bunny

WARNING

Image
Don't go over to Breaking News (which I know some of you like to visit). Nauseating doesn't even cut it. Don't even attempt, even out of curiosity, to turn on Fox News. You will feel sick. I would seriously urge all my followers to keep away from news in general, but right-wing leaning news in particular. Stop the doom-scrolling. I know you all want to know every twist and turn in the Charlie Kirk story and it's aftermath, but you will become very upset, even triggered, if you pursue your interest.  I can't turn on the TV to news any more. I avoid political talk shows. I want to disappear into the backwoods of Canada. Oh never mind, I already have. So maybe even further into the backwoods. I have never seen such outrage, such vitriol, such insane ravings, as there has been over the killing of Charlie Kirk. People generally came together over the assassination of MKL and JFK. They even came together in brotherhood over the attempted killing of Reagan. But something ...

Is Being First That Important?

Image
Some new IPhones have come out.  So, to fill space, the news has been showing the history of the thing, especially with people who waited in line for days to be the first person to get one.   Bunny can’t understand this.   Same with the latest version of some video game or other products.  These aren’t some rare, limited items, but mass produced and more than enough for anyone who wants one.  The next day, anyone can just walk into the store and buy one…no waiting. Same with those who time the birth of their child to be the first one of the new year.  Does anyone remember who was the first to be born in the year 2,000, or who saw the first sunrise of the millennium?  Will this look good on your resume? Bunny not competitive, but can see being the first to land on the Moon or Mars.  What is it that makes being the first and something ordinary so important? J. P.  Bunny

You Would Like To, But Age Is A Problem.

Image
Not just the problems that come with getting older, but just being older.  Bunny always loved water slides.  Now, they are really fantastic.  Unfortunately, they are all located in family themed water parks.  There is nothing that says an ancient old fart can’t come and enjoy himself on his own, but the pervy looks will come out.   Unless Bunny finds some kids to borrow and say they are the grandchildren, nothing but a dirty old man, ogling the cuties.  Keep an eye on him. Anything the advanced years keep you from doing? J. P. Bunny

I have a scar on my belly

Image
I have a scar on my belly.    Let me explain: Several years ago, I was diagnosed with a pituitary adenoma.  This is fancyshmansy terminology for "brain tumor."  It's located on the pituitary gland, and if it grows too large, you first go blind, then you plotz. Needless to say, I quickly agreed to brain surgery to remove the little bugger.  Going blind and dying was not in my  game plan.  So we scheduled surgery. The day of the operation, I was asked whether I wanted the fat removed from my stomach or my fanny.  What fat? I asked.  Turns out, the doctors need to reseal the sack around the brain, and they use body fat to do so.   Not really thinking about it, I said, "Use fat from my stomach." So now I have a scar.  And regrets.  Because just think.  If I'd said, "take it from my backside," anytime someone asked about it, I  could say, "That scar on my ass?  That's from a brain operation!" Darn. So, what...

I came across a question that has me befuddled.

Image
Maybe the wise and sagacious people on this forum might be able to speculate on the answer. If a vampire   bites a zombie, does the zombie become a vampire or the vampire become a zombie? Then we have one of them time paradox questions: If you take an object back in time and leave it there, where did it originally come from? AND one more just for the fun of it.......... If we’re all unique, doesn’t that make being unique not unique?

`Tis The Little Things.

Image
Not as deep as having a purpose in life, but the little things that make life worth it.  Falling asleep on the sofa on a cold day, with a blanket, book, and purring kitty.  Such moments are what does it for Bunny. What does it for you? J. P. Bunny

What is OUR purpose in life?

Image
OR............. Why did God put me on the Earth? OR........... Not being religious, does being born nevertheless have some greater purpose other than just to exist? OR............ Why do we have what the animal world doesn't have? Self determination. A conscience. Earth shattering (literally) intelligence?  OR........... Leave me alone, these questions are too much to think about. BUT............ What is OUR purpose in life? Just to exist? Just to make it to the end? Just to be happy?  OR............ Is there a greater purpose that we (as a species) are not fulfilling? Though some of us, no doubt, are attempting to. Little acts of kindness. Advocating for the poor, the forgotten.  BUT.......... Is that fulfilling a greater purpose or just something we feel a desire to do to give our own lives more meaning? NOW......... I have a headache. Comes from raising questions that we - for the MOST part - don't want to think about.  YET.......... Should we be thinking mo...

Promote something...

Image
Our KipSmithers had a good suggestion: "Plug products you like." Favorite food is one subject, but let’s not restrict this to just foodstuffs, but also other goods and services you are happy with. Q: Is there something you highly recommend?  Tell us why you like it. (for Kip by PrimalSoup)

It’s “brag about yourself” day…

Image
Let’s talk about your many virtues.  I will leave/defer/dare I say delegate (?) the “vices department” to our capable Snowy’s keyboard fingers. 😁 So, let me list some virtues for you to ponder.  There are many others than what I’m listing, but I picked out some to consider (listed alphabetically): Commitment Dependability Ethics Fairness Honesty Tolerance Trustworthiness Truthfulness I/We all know and can understand that unavoidable circumstances ("through no fault of your own" thing) can throw a monkey-wrench into anyone's virtue’s works.  So, let’s gauge the/our answers on the elusive “in a perfect world” scenario; the “generally speaking,” the “on the whole,” the “as a rule,” etc. Q1: Based on my list, what do you believe is your best/greatest virtue? Q2: If you can, rank my above list in order of importance to you. Q3: From 0-100%, what percentage do you rate yourself, regarding each virtue?  If you want to, give a brief description of yourself regarding that vi...

Cookies!

Image
Cookies!  Like them?  Love them?  Your favourites? The ones you don’t care for?  Bunny loves his cookies.  There is a small, private bakery run by one woman.  Open three days a week.  Males American style muffins and cookies.  Big and yummy.  Best one is a soft chocolate cookie, with marshmallow and cheesecake inside.  Eat one, and it’s nap time. What about þee? J. P. Bunny

Blooms in your area

Image
In my area, we are big on hydrangeas.  There are many, many hydrangeas in bloom in eastern Massachusetts right now, and they have been this way for a couple of months.  The goldenrods are starting to come into their own; they will go on until something like Halloween (or Veterans Day).  We are also blessed by many black-eyed Susans and summer irises. So, how about anyone else?  What do you see blooming in Ontario, Japan, Nevada, and so forth? Posted by Jennifer A. Nolan

Is it here yet?

Image
So, in my neck of the woods, it's starting.  Fall! The nights get into the lower teens Celsius or the fifties Fahrenheit.  A "heat wave" is temperatures in the mid-80's or lower 30's, not the 90's or 40.  And the plants and trees are starting to turn colors and shed leaves.  That's in eastern Massachusetts, with a latitude of 42 degrees north and an elevation of 140 feet over sea level. So, how about you out there?  Is is still high summer where you are, or did it begin changing last week or even sooner?   Posted by Jennifer A. Nolan

Can't use Discuss Disqus

I will tag a couple of the mods from Discuss Disqus and see if they can give me an answer here. I went to create a discussion in Discuss Disqus and this is what I had to say: Every time I log into Snowflake's Forum it shows I have 9 notifications regardless if I have one or ten, and has been that way for a week. Also: When I click on "Admin" for my forum, I get a note saying...... This Page Isn't Working HTTP ERROR 400 I do get into my moderation panel in a roundabout way and I have been seeing a pending for days now, when I click delete it won't delete the pending comment. So I am stuck seeing a pending that I can't get rid of. Ok, I just went to post this discussion in Discuss Disqus and I got a note saying this discussion can not be saved.  What is going on?  Is the above an issue with Disqus or is the above an issue with my forum?

More food talk...

Image
That’s always a blog wiener 😁 We talked about breakfast a few days ago.   Now, let’s delve into lunch: If you still work, or when you were a working stiff, what was your lunch routine: Brown bagger  Lunch bucket/pail Chips and soda PB&J Two-ish Martini lunch at an actual upscale restaurant, with colleagues (i.e., high society types)  Drive-thru or eat-in fast food-er (if so, what was/is your go-to)? Taco Bell, Wendy’s, McDs, Subway, etc.   If different ones, rank them in order of frequency. Work Cafeteria Run home and slap together something (e.g., leftovers) if you live(d) close enough to home and have/had the extra time  Work kitchenette, where you could DIY with microwave, toaster oven, etc. None (I don't eat lunch) Other (you tell me) Did your lunch routine change when you changed jobs (moved on to greener pastures)?  How so? (by PrimalSoup)

Everyone recovered?

Image
From the labor day weekend or if you live in Canada, the labour day weekend? Anyone want to share how they spent their weekend? Family? Friends? Lotsa booze? Lotsa food? Or watching the news to find out if Trump had a stroke? I made a short trip to Minny to pick up Geri and then home and then we just vegetated. SO nothing very exciting. BTW, crossing the border hasn't changed. I was greeted at the crossing into the US with courtesy and greeted my return to Canada with a lot of questions and suspicion.  Today is supposed to be my first day back to work, but in typical leftist teacher style, today is a PD day. I kid you not. Two PD days in Sept - the first one being today. You woulda thought the teachers here would have had two months to get some Professional Development done. ANYWAY - the weekend over, and the summer over, it's time to get back to doing more posting and commenting on here (hint hint to all my regulars).

More Word Fun. Tom Swifties.

Image
A bit of dated word play.  Tom Swifties.  Usually an adverb in the form of a pun, but not always. No, I can’t raise the dead said Tom stiffly. The pharaoh’s tomb has been raided said Tom gravely. You blew up my car! Tom exploded. Any fun from your end? J. P. Bunny
