Ghost of Ghost Past's Question...

Image
Ghost of Ghost Past Anything except politics and maybe religion. Oh yeah, nothing to do with those wars and people fighting each other. We have enough of that going around. You know, fun stuff. Stuff that makes us laugh and puts a smile on our face. Like the time you had a picture of the peanut radicle and asked what it was. Fun stuff! (posted by PrimalSoup for GoGP)

Labor Day vs Labour Day?

Can anyone here tell me the difference? If not I will gladly inform you all of the biggest difference, unless my wise and sagacious regulars are able to provide the difference.

J.P. Bunny's Question... (2)

J.P. Bunny's Question...

Image
J.P. Bunny Words you use instead of curse words. (posted by PrimalSoup for J.P. Bunny) *Note- FYI, since many have asked multiple question, I'm trying to use the FIFO method from the  original OP  ask, and then grouping the same person's questions together in a series.  IOW, for example, Bunny will get his second (2) question posted tomorrow.

What is the saying?

Image
Why do today what can be put off til tomorrow. Isn't THAT the saying? It isn't? Please correct me then, what IS the saying? Here is a thought: Waiting for the Perfect Time You may say you are not ready. You might say that things will be  easier  if you wait. Or that you are waiting for a better, more convenient time. Yet, “the perfect time” is a myth. And you may run out of time if you delay. The Right Time is Now Stop putting things off. There won’t be a “better” or “easier” time. Not later. Not tomorrow. Not when the stars align. If you wait, you may be too late. The right time is always right now. Too simplistic?  Opposing view: But the truth is — whether we want to admit it or not — there NEVER really is a “right” time. In essence, it comes down to how much we really WANT something, and what sacrifices we’re WILLING to make during the process of getting it. The “right” time is the time you decide to make it right . In most cases, people are ready whenever we dec...

PWoD's Question... (2)

Image
PWoD   I'm curious as to how folks on this forum feel about valid functions of government, and how it might differ depending on how local that government is. I think most folks who have read my posts know how I feel*, but I'd like to hear some justification for differing viewpoints. Hell, that might even spawn a couple dozen threads, breaking down individual functions. I've had a few discussions here on (regarding functions of government) how best to implement those functions. Supreme Court decisions can be overturned, as we've seen, so clearly that wasn't a very robust way to make abortion legal country-wide. California at least used to be able to amend the state Constitution with a ballot initiative, which pretty much negates the whole idea of a constitution. (posted by PrimalSoup for PWoD) *Can you remind us of some of your specifics, to get the ball rolling?  Thanks.

Various bits of stuff 'n things

Image
On the science front, SciNews reports that physicists from the STAR Collaboration have observed the antimatter hypernucleus antihyperhydrogen-4 — composed of an antihyperon, an antiproton and two antineutrons — in collisions of atomic nuclei at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at DOE’s Brookhaven National Laboratory.  Detecting this unstable antihypernucleus is a rare event. It required all four components — one antiproton, two antineutrons, and one antilambda — to be emitted from the quark-gluon soup generated in RHIC collisions in just the right place, headed in the same direction, and at the right time to clump together into a temporarily bound state. Antihyperhydrogen-4 pops out  after  2 gold nuclei  collided and exploded into subatomic fiddly bits The shock and awe among the peanut gallery crowd was palpable as these comments indicate: Peanut 1: I have no idea what any of this means. Peanut 2:  But the words are all cool, right? Peanut 3: ...

StrontiDog's Question...

Image
StrontiDog   Having never met a rule I don't feel the need to push against, or at least bend. . . .and you did give me the idea, after all. How about: Is porn actually cheating on your significant other? Feel free not to use it, but I'm betting there's a bit of disagreement as to the answer to that, and I'm also betting there's a gender divide, as well. (posted by PrimalSoup for StrontiDog)

Let The Animals Be Animals.

The images above are pretty much the norm in Japan.  Overly dressed pets.  Many of the dogs never even walk.  They are rolled around in strollers and then placed in their spot to do their business.  The rat sized dogs carried around in special pouches.  Pampering pets is fine, but should we be embarrassing the hell out of them? Inappropriate displays of affection

Image
SO, my lady and I have been going swimming a lot lately, to lose weight, and we noticed "rules" posted at our public indoor swimming pools. One of those rules reads "No inappropriate displays of affection." SAY WHAT? So here is a question for you all - what would YOU consider inappropriate displays of affection in public? Or around family, friends? How is displays of affection affected by culture, religion, who you are doing it in front of (family or strangers)? Would a big juicy kiss, while maybe acceptable in a shopping mall be unacceptable in a church - or public indoor swimming pool? What about a prolonged hug that appears passionate?  How about personal comfort? No one is likely to feel uncomfortable watching a couple holding hands or giving each other a light peck, but what if they are being playful and one slaps the other on the behind? Should you temper your show of affection so as to NOT offend whoever is around you? Forget about guidelines, though there a...

Tell us your summer stories

We all know about my summer adventures, but what about YOURS? What did you do this summer? Tell us about your adventures. Yup, even the mundane ones. THAT meme also reminds me, that a lot of our regulars here live in the States, where - from what I've heard - it was damn hot. How did y'all survive the heat this summer?

It's the BLUE eyes............

Ever wonder what makes such a bad man, such a sad man? I think, inadvertently, that I might have found the answer. Let's start with this: Jail records show Trump has blue eyes. https://inshorts.com/en/news/jail-records-reveal-trumps-height-weight-eye-and-hair-colour-1692940476690 Former President  Donald Trump  talked up his  “beautiful blue eyes” https://uk.news.yahoo.com/trump-gets-roasted-post-where-204507743.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAGyBxVGUxY4EpQRKCHpbS_FqUWyE0Zj96BWCh_dTn1kIVxEXVxTfAhb713iB4NymwS-Dcxqf8D-48R82GaowhhpOQlq54PLM5SGK6LdmHDV-4bj_NjDrGhzlUxP3_UBc8F_-2wVm-TyoPbJG18js_0U3s1A8AgzCY4nMLeBycI2J Seems Pete Towshend, way back when, might have figured it before me.......... No one knows what it's like To be the bad man To be the sad man Behind blue eyes And no one knows what it's like To be hated To be fated to telling only lies But my dreams they aren't as empty As my conscience seems to ...

A Marijuana Thread

Image
Just_PrimalSoup (aka Susan)    SNOWFLAKE 15 hours ago Now that recreational marijuana is legal and is being sold in Ohio, I have been toying with the idea of going up to Cleveland and buying some. Now, keep in mind I have no idea what to get, ZERO, other than it has to be an edible. I don’t like the idea of smoking anything. But I wouldn’t mind trying some of the edibles. I’d be looking for something not too outrageous (i .e., causing me to get stoned out of my mind). Hey, I’m 76 for crying out loud! Just something not too heavy to take the edge off occasionally (other than alcohol). Here’s a sample website I’ve been looking at. Any suggestions? https://www.thelandingdispensaries.com/ AlextheKay  might also have some suggestions. Anybody else here? The trouble with dispensing advice on cannabis is that every individual reacts differently and we don't want to cause any harm by giving "advice" without caution. As for myself, I always smoked the stuff. And back in the...

Well, more like a passing mention here on this blog. 😁 The old “15-minutes of fame” thing. The “suggestions” line is now open and I’m looking for ideas for OPs/threads.   We need to help each other out if we want this forum to continue to flourish.   So, do your part and pitch in.   Contribute something.   Doesn’t matter the category (porn excepted [i.e., not accepted that is] 😜).   Ask as many questions as you want over the next week.   I will be checking in daily and will be building a list of poster’s questions to be showcased over the next several months (I hope). Thanks, fellow posters!   The responsibility is also in your hands now!   So claim/take some ownership with this project! (by PrimalSoup)

What is going on here?

Thank goodness (I would say thank God, but don't want to offend the sensitive types) that Germaine has become a frequent poster on this forum. Also a thanks to the Bunny and Jennifer for their threads.  Now I have to wonder what happened to my OTHER authors? 😕 Particularly one lady who likes my teasing her, so my guess is, since I wasn't here to tease her, she decided to forget about us. Sighs. Well, I am back now. If you want to read about my adventures, you will have to read up on them on Kat's........ https://countrykatnc.blogspot.com/2024/08/im-back.html \ I have been keeping abreast of political developments but with only a curious eye, wanting to take my time away from all this as being truly away. The first month of my "away" time was a blast, but alas, August has been a struggle. Looking forward to getting back to a normal routine. That will include getting geared up for another school year (doing cross-guarding again). As well as finally finishing an un...

Tension mounts over the Hubble tension: It's getting really . . . . not dull

Image
Left to right: Big bang, primordial soup period, opaque universe period, modern universe we can see (the JWST is on the right looking back in time) As we all know, the Hubble tension is the discrepancy between the rate of the expansion of the universe that the standard model of the universe predicts compared to expansion rate that the Hubble space telescope revealed. The standard model predicts that the universe should be expanding at a rate of 67.4 km/s/Megaparsec (1 Mpc = 3.26 million light years). Measurements from Hubble and now also the JWST (James Webb Space Telescope) indicate a faster rate of expansion, but with different rates depending on the kind of star used for the calculation. As you can see, the mess keeps getting messier. Things are tense. Quanta Magazine comments : Two rival teams have led the effort to measure the cosmic expansion rate, which is known as the Hubble constant, or H 0 . One of these teams, led by Adam Riess of Johns Hopkins University, has consisten...

A significant solar panel improvement

Image
Physicists at Oxford University have reported what appears to be a significant incremental advance in solar panel technology.  The researchers developed a flexible perovskite material that is about 100 times thinner than a human hair and can generate solar electricity just as efficiently as traditional silicon panels. The new solar cell is about 1 micron thick (1 micron = 0.0000394 inch), while current solar panels are typically about 150-200 micron thick. Unlike rigid, single-purpose slabs, this material can coat just about any surface, such as cars, clothing, buildings and mobile devices.  Oxford reports : Scientists at Oxford University Physics Department have developed a revolutionary approach which could generate increasing amounts of solar electricity without the need for silicon-based solar panels. Instead, their innovation works by coating a new power-generating material onto the surfaces of everyday objects such as rucksacks, cars, and mobile phones. Their new l...

Greenhouse gas effect of CO2 now better understood

Image
In the 1800s, Swedish physicist Knut Ångström (the guy the Ångström length unit was named after - 1 Ångström = 3.94 billionths of an inch) said that adding more carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) to the atmosphere would not lead to global warming. His reasoning was sound and accurate based on the physics of the day. In a nutshell: 1. Atoms and molecules that absorb photons of light warm up by increasing their movements/vibrations in an amount equal to the amount of energy in the absorbed light - the light energy is converted to kinetic energy in the molecule.  2. Most atoms and molecules that absorb light at a specific, precise wavelength (or narrow spectrum of wavelengths), with wavelengths much longer or shorter not absorbed because the atom or molecule cannot assume a kinetic energy state equal to the amount of energy in a photon at that wavelength.  3. CO 2  warms the atmosphere by absorbing infrared light at a 15 micron wavelength (15 microns = 0.00059 inch)....

Profiles in patriotic Project 2025-style capitalism: EPA issues urgent alert about a fetus poison

Image
The WaPo reports about an EPA emergency action: EPA takes emergency action to stop use of dangerous pesticide The pesticide, known as DCPA, is known to harm fetuses and “needs to be removed from the market immediately,” an EPA official said For the first time in 40 years, the Environmental Protection Agency has taken emergency action to stop the use of a pesticide linked to serious health risks for unborn babies. Tuesday’s emergency order applies to dimethyl tetrachloroterephthalate, also known as DCPA or Dacthal, an herbicide used on crops such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and onions. When pregnant farmworkers and others are exposed to the pesticide, their babies can experience changes to fetal thyroid hormone levels, which are linked to low birth weight, impaired brain development, decreased IQ and impaired motor skills later in life. “DCPA is so dangerous that it needs to be removed from the market immediately,” Michal Freedhoff , assistant administrator for the EPA’s Off...
