More sad news............

Image
I really really hope this is on the up and up. With interactions with people on the internet, you can never be sure if what we hear is real. BUT, because we have all been wondering what happened to Susan, I will repost an email I got this morning: Hi, This is Walter, Susan's step son who she mentioned live in California.  I am sorry to inform you that Susan took her life the day before Thanksgiving by locking herself in the garage with the cars running.  I can see from your communications that she trusted you and that is why I am informing you that she committed suicide.  Thank you for encouraging her to trudge along in life if her husband were to die.  I wish she would have listened to you closer.   The email did come from her email address . So, I replied with condolences and thought it best to drop this note to let you all know of her passing. To my authors who have her on their invite list, you can now remove her name.

Too comfortable

Image
Ironically, this thread is inspired by a news item I ran across where a NATO leader stated publicly that Europe could not defend itself without the US. I thought to myself, is it true? Well, no, they CAN defend themselves without the US, but it's citizenry has gotten too comfortable, too entitled, too spoiled, to fight. Imagine the current generation accepting the life Brits had to live through during WWII with hiding in bomb shelters or surviving on food rations.  Ukrainians put the rest of Europe to shame.  Now, it's gotten bitterly cold. The number of kids I end up crossing in this weather has dropped to just a few. Most get driven. Even ones I know live just two blocks away. BUT why should our kids need to freeze when we can drive them? Yet, growing up, I never got driven to school and we lived more than two blocks away. Think of the protestors in Minnesota. The linking of arms and walking side by side to defy ICE is being replaced with screaming expletives at ICE ag...

Not Sold In Stores, Buy Now!

Image
We have all seen TV ads selling all kinds of amazing things, only available on TV.  Have you ever bought anything sold on TV?  Hundreds of years ago Bunny bought a three record set from K-tell, Cod.  Have you ever succumbed to TV ads and bought something? J. P. Bunny.

Why do we believe misinformation more easily when it’s repeated many times?

Image
The 2020 elections were rigged, haven't you heard? Some vaccines cause Autism. Why do we believe misinformation more easily when it’s repeated many times? What is the Illusory Truth Effect? The  illusory truth effect,  also known as the illusion of truth, describes how when we hear the same false information repeated again and again, we often come to believe it is true. Troublingly, this even happens when people should know better—that is, when people initially know that the misinformation is false. Individual effects We all like to think of ourselves as being impervious to misinformation, but even the most well-informed individuals are still prone to the illusory truth effect. We may be skeptical of a false claim the first time it floats through our Twitter timeline, but the more we are exposed to it, the more we start to  feel  like it’s true—and our pre-existing knowledge does little to prevent this. https://thedecisionlab.com/biases/illusory-truth-effect Wh...

The Wildness Of Your Youth?

Image
Most of us are of an older age now.  Most likely more sedate and boring.  What about your younger days?  Were you wild?  Lawbreaker?  Troublemaker?  Drunk or high when possible? Bunny doesn’t drink.  Nothing religious, just never liked the taste.  No drinking or drugs back then.  No parties.  A boring Bunny. That sayeþ ðou?

My sordid career in CRIME!

Image
I've  been arrested   just three times in my life.  Two arrests were traffic offenses.  No big deal, bailed out and paid my fine.  One, though, was for a criminal offense:  I bounced a check. I knew that sucker was out there, but I  just procrastinated until someone dropped into the local police station and filed a complaint.  I was notified I had to come in.  It was now too late to just pay it.  They had me on a charge of passing a bad check.  I had to spend a night in the clink. The next day, I was up before a magistrate.  I admitted I'd failed to make the check good.  Hizzoner tsk-tsked at me.  "Can you explain why you did this?" he demanded.   Well, I explained, my infant son was dying in the hospital, and nothing else seemed very important.  I just kinda let things slide, I said.  "I have to admit I've never heard that one!" the judge said.  "And how is your son now?"   I...

In a pensive mood

Image
Ever hear the story about a guy who smoked all his life, drank heavily, never worked out, yet lived to be in his 90s? How about the opposite? I am in a pensive mood, a bit sad, definitely worried. Let me explain: For the last several years, where I do my cross guarding, a gentleman has passed by my corner EVERY morning, rain or shine, snow or cold. Exact same age as I am - 72.  He always stopped to have a chat with me before the swarm of kids came along. We got to know each other quite well even though we never took our friendship beyond the corner. His name is Jim. Widowed, owns a home near my corner. He has never smoked. He doesn't drink. At all. Plus he walks an hour EVERY day whatever the weather. He is in great shape for his age. I have often quibbed that I wish I was in as great a shape as he is.  Just before Christmas he told me he was having dizzy spells but was reluctant to see a doctor or go to emerg. Since Christmas (we get two weeks off over the Christmas/New...

BREAKING NEWS..................... TWO FEET OF SNOW IN CANADA!

Just Say "Buggeroff"

Image
I'm friendly, by nature. If a stranger says "hello" to me, I'll smile and reply in kind. But these days, that's not always wise. This past weekend, a stranger greeted me in the plaza where my coffee group meets. And then, after I replied, he said, "God bless America!" "Sure," I said. "I'm proud to be an American!" he boasted. "Yeah, me too," I said, and turned away. And he boomed, right in my ear, "Now that Biden's out of office!" I said, "Take your TDS and find someone else to talk to, okay? I'm not interested." This is where any rational person would toss an insult and leave, or just leave. Not this guy. "I have freedom of speech! I can talk to you if I want!" After a little more of this I said, "Go away or I'll have you thrown out of here for harassing customers." It was very much like a lot of the exchanges in the message areas of Facebook posts. He ta...

Good Paying Jobs You Didn’t / Won’t Take.

Image
Japan has guard / guide jobs for construction sites and road work area.   The place is fenced off, surrounded with cones and plastic rods, and flashing lights for the evening.  You get a helmet, uniform, and a light stick.  Your job is to stand there.  If someone comes close, politely point the obvious way around.  At night, you move your stick back and forth.   That’s it.  After retirement, Bunny almost took the position, but thought the better of it.   Very good money, but you stand…only that.  No pacing back and forth, stool, music…nothing.  Dead easy, good money, but Bunny wouldn’t last an hour. Are there such jobs you passed on, or actually had? J. P. Bunny

What are YOUR opinions worth?

Image
There is an old saying that everyone has opinions, just like everyone has an............... well, you know what. So, in short, opinions are like....................well, you know what. AND we all have them nevertheless. That is just my opinion. It is also my opinion that some opinions are worth more than others. So I found some questions on the value of opinions: In this era of spin and fake news, it is a good idea to ask yourself, “What value do other people assign to my opinions?” Do others accept your opines as the Holy Word and hang onto your words as having life-shifting importance? Are your statements and profundities well-researched, documented, and logically defensible? AND............................. Are your behaviors reflecting the value you bring to the conversation? https://mycoach.com/how-much-is-your-opinion-worth/ AI Overview Your opinions hold value when they're thoughtful, grounded in experience, and shared respectfully, but their worth is determined by how they ...

More Weird Things That Cross Your Mind.

Image
Bunny had a headache this morning.  As he was getting the aspirin and mumbling to himself about having a bad headache….who has a good headache?  Do we fall down and not need a cast because the leg break was good?  Having a good cold versus a bad one? Silly?  Yep.  But those are what run through Bunny’s remaining brain cell.  And weird thoughts running through yours? J. P. Bunny

Mondergreens And Palindromes

Image
A bit more cerebral this time.  Bunny loves his word play.  What songs / lyrics can you name with mondergreens (mishearing)?    Example:  Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds…the girl with colitis goes by. Palindromes.  The best one…A man, a plan, a canal, panama. J. P. Bunny

Thor vs Jesus

Image
Both sons of Gods. One was crucified, the other wields a mighty hammer.  Of course, Jesus is believe to be real and Thor mythical. So Jesus was better at convincing the human race to follow him than Thor was. Then some people are convinced it would be Thor. Who would win in a fight, Jesus Christ or Thor? I have to go with Thor as I know of nothing Jesus has that could be used to beat the God of thunder. https://www.quora.com/Who-would-win-in-a-fight-Jesus-Christ-or-Thor Then there is Muhammad, a military leader, which Jesus was not, but no outerwordly powers like Thor. What about Hercules? He certainly had the strength, so it would be an unfair fight between him and Jesus, wouldn't it? Hmm, come to think of it, Jesus, the son of God, would likely lose to the sons of Allah, Zeus, or Odin.  What is your guess? Any other Sons of Gods who would be the most powerful? (This thread not meant to offend anyone with strong religious or mythical beliefs)
