Let’s ease into the new week(s)…

Image
God’s know we need it, after the last couple of weeks. 😵 I’m gonna do a series of Monday morning questions.  Nothing complicated, just some fun questions for our “blog bonding.” So... Which do you prefer?   Coffee or tea? Sweet or salty? Chocolate or vanilla? Ketchup or mustard? Pepsi or Coke? Pancakes or waffles? Crunchy peanut butter or smooth? Breakfast or dinner? Soup or salad? Home-cooked meal or takeout? Give some explanation or maybe a backstory as to why (or why not), if you feel like it (i.e., just for conversation’s sake).  See if you are a “personality match” for anyone else here. Is this a joke?

Image
I would like to ask any of my Canadian friends what they think of Trudeau's response to the impending tariffs imposed on Canada by Trump. I mean, I hope most Canadians would be MORE outraged than to simply suggest......... to forgo Florida orange juice and Kentucky bourbon He said: “It might mean checking the labels at the supermarket and picking Canadian made products. It might mean opting for Canadian rye over  Kentucky  bourbon  , or forgoing  Florida  orange juice altogether. “It might mean changing your summer vacation plans to stay here in Canada and explore the many national and provincial parks, historical sites and tourist destinations our great country has to offer.” https://www.newsbreak.com/the-independent-517119/3787648131075-trudeau-tells-canadians-to-forgo-florida-orange-juice-and-kentucky-bourbon-after-trump-s-aggressive-tariff Is this a joke? (I guess I will have to forgo Jack Daniels and I am sure that Trump will reverse the tariffs based...

What are your favorites?

Image
I’m not a fan of today’s movies or Hollywood in general.  But there have been many movies in the past that I thought were pretty good. Elizabeth Taylor was one of the most notable and sought-after actresses of yesteryear.   She’s made over 50 films: Link here. Do you have a favorite (or favorites) of her iconic movie career? Here are some of mine in order of year released: 1951 - A Place in the Sun 1958 - Cat on a Hot Tin Roof 1960 - Butterfield 8 1963 - Cleopatra 1966 - Who’s Afraid of Virgina Woolf? 1970 - The Only Game in Town I think Virginia Woolf and Cleopatra are probably tied for my most favorites. How about you?   What are your favorite Elizabeth Taylor movies? (by PrimalSoup)

Something Small That Made Your Day Or Makes Your Day.

Image
Something small that can change your day or has done so.  Example.  Sometime in the mid 80s, Bunny was at the post box in front of the station.  Putting a stamp on the letter before popping it in the box.  Don’t know why, but Bunny in a bit of a foul mood.  Some little old lady walks up and looks at Bunny.  All ready for the strange foreigner comment and she would be given no mercy. She looks up, smiles, and says “Love letter? He, he, he.”  Then wanders off.  Killed Bunny’s nasty mood and cheerful for the rest of the day. That little thing still stays with Bunny.   Any such event for you? J. P. Bunny

Science: A small neutrino detector has been found to actually work!

Image
Science News reports : A tiny neutrino detector scored big at a nuclear reactor Conventional detectors of the subatomic particles require metric tons of material. But the new detector has a mass of less than 3 kilograms. Think chihuahua. And it successfully detected antineutrinos , the antimatter counterparts of neutrinos, streaming from a nuclear power plant in Leibstadt, Switzerland, researchers report in a paper submitted January 9 to arXiv.org . “This is actually huge,” says neutrino physicist Kate Scholberg of Duke University, who was not involved with the research. “People have been trying to do this for many decades and now have finally succeeded.” Similar scaled-down neutrino detectors have glimpsed neutrinos and antineutrinos created by laboratory sources of the particles. Nuclear reactors spit out relatively low-energy antineutrinos. By measuring those low-energy particles, such detectors could help test physics theories or reveal the inner workings of atomic nuclei. Some sci...

Vaccine hesitancy

Image
Surveys take pulse on growing number of Americans who support option to opt children out of vaccines Researchers say the number of Americans who support letting parents choose whether to vaccinate their children has grown since the Covid-19 pandemic. (CN) — Most Americans still say children should be vaccinated against preventable diseases, but a pair of surveys published Tuesday found noteworthy declines in support for requiring inoculation alongside a decrease in  distrust  against the federal agencies that set public policy. A survey  conducted  by the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia found a four-point decline in support for mandating parents to get their children vaccinated against preventable diseases like measles, mumps and rubella. Months before the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a global pandemic, Annenberg’s 2019 survey found 77% of Americans polled supported mandating the vaccines for children, c...

The Butterfly Effect: History & random events

Image
Sometimes small, seemingly unimportant events have major consequences. If Hitler and Hugenberg has just kept bickering for a few minutes more, an impatient German President Hindenburg would have left, Hitler would not have risen to power as Chancellor, and the major kerfuffle called World War 2 would have been avoided. There were a number of such events in the American revolutionary war.  1.  In Battle of Long Island, a heavy fog settled over Brooklyn on the morning of August 30, 1776.  The fog concealed the evacuation  of the Continental Army from Brooklyn Heights to Manhattan. This allowed General George Washington to evacuate his entire army, including 9,000 troops, without the loss of life or supplies. Had the British detected this retreat, they could have inflicted a devastating blow to the American forces, potentially ending the war early in their favor. 2.  In the Trenton-Princeton Campaign (December 25-26, 1776),  a nor'easter storm  wit...

The Real Newspaper Or Digital Device?

Image
Bunny has his newspaper delivered daily.  Much more expensive than a digital one, but Bunny doesn’t like reading from a screen.  Just can’t stay interested.  Of course, if your eyes are falling apart, digital great for enlarging the type. Aside from the bad eyes, which do you prefer?   J.P. Bunny

Americans and Cowboys

Image
Americans LOVE their cowboys. Might explain why Trump won so big. Mind you, he is no cowboy, but you know ............ perceptions.  🙄 AI Overview Yes, Westerns are still popular  and are currently experiencing a revival in film and television. The Western genre was the backbone of American cinema for decades. Westerns have begun to create a new Golden Age on TV. Westerns can tell character-driven stories that are exciting and compelling. https://www.cbr.com/tv-western-golden-age/ Is the era of THE MAN back again? Do Americans want their cowboy heroes again? Is the era of diversity, DEI, political correctness in politics dead? OR is it just that westerns have been and always will be popular and we shouldn't think of them in terms of politics? Whatchathink? Is America essentially a cowboy nation?  The cowboy’s influence on  American identity  extends far beyond the historical realities of frontier life, shaping a national mythos that continues to resonate ...
